Editorial Review for Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery – by Jim Harrington
The Scene
Located in the Pruneyard Shopping Center, this classic brewery offers plenty of warm woods and open seating. Families and couples banter over the meals in the expansive dining area, while a full-service patio area attracts a bustling singles crowd on warm nights.
The Food
Gourmet salads, burgers, sandwiches and steaks dominate the menu. Try the roasted garlic tenderloin, smoked fish and chips, and individual pizzas. The Monte Cristo sandwich is a decadent deep-fried monster, oozing with Swiss cheese. The beers--pales, reds, browns, stouts, lagers and specialty ales--are crafted on-site by the brewmaster. The Brown Bear Brown and the Raccoon Red are both well-balanced and malty. Also look for seasonal brews like the nice IPA.

My wife and I got married in Colorado and had our rehearsal dinner at Rockbottom in Denver. We love their beer. At their location in Campbell, CA we loved the patio and happy hour specials. It's one of the few places in the San Jose area where dogs are welcome on the patio. Unfortunately, that's where the praise ends. We really wanted to love this place, really. We spent a year going here a couple times a month and every time the service was absolutely horrible. But with a nice patio and decent beers we kept going back. After four or five trips in a row with a completely inattentive wait staff and extremely rude hostesses, we've decided to give up. The last trip we waited 15 minutes just for a waitress then another 10 for drinks. Mind you, there were only three other tables occupied on the patio. Then our appetizers were brought to a different table and we didn’t see our server for another 10 minutes. Long story short, after sitting there for nearly 45 minutes we decided it’s time to find another place to enjoy happy hour.
Pros: Beer
Cons: Service

Rock Bottom has a great variety of beers. I especially recommend trying their specials, they tend to be great. The food is also great. I highly recommend the Brown Ale Chicken, Burgers, and their Chicken Fajitas. To be honest, I have only had one thing there I did not like and they have since removed it from the menu. If you like beer, make sure to join the Mug Club for bigger beers at the same price.
Pros: Beer and Food
Cons: Service can be inconsitent when they are very busy
