Southern hospitality is yours for the taking. But you'll still need to get there early for a table..
The Scene
Patrons wait in long lines to inhabit a spot at the long breakfast counter, one of the few comfy booths or the no-frills diner tables at the front of the small storefront. Early mornings it's cops and hard-hat crews, later it fills up with folks in suits with cellies. Co-owner Rosemarie Thompson seems to know everybody, or at least she fakes it real well.
The Food
They've won serious accolades for their apple and cinnamon French toast, but the egg dishes have lots of devotees. Omelets are four-egg monsters, stuffed with sausage, avocado and all manner of fillings. Then there's the "breakfast of champions" (what German Claudia Losch ate before winning the gold in shotputting): two pancakes, three strips of bacon, three sausages, three eggs and hash browns, all for $8.25. Enough to excite the most unflappable cardiologist.
Plates bigger than your head!. I've been going to Southern Kitchen for breakfast for about 3 years now. I LOVE IT! They have a wonderful variety of dishes! They PILE the food on your plate, the service is GREAT, and the food is DELICIOUS! They even have some healthy dishes on the menu. The chile verde is awesome, the chicken-fried steak comes with a wonderful THICK gravy, with huge pieces of bacon and sausage, and the chorizo plate comes with soft flour tortillas. MMMM.
Starting Off Right. I go to the Country Kitchen at least 2 times a week, and I find the staff and food put me in the right mood to start my day off right. I espically recommend Chef Leo's special. It gives me the energy to easily make it through my day.
Delicious downhome breakfasts. Relatively simple fare, although some of the weekend specials expand beyond basic. I have only eaten breakfast there, so I have no idea about the quality of their lunches or dinners. Omelettes are huge and packed with fresh goodies, hashbrowns yummy, pancakes quite good. Service is friendly and efficient, but the restaurant tends to get crowded with families (i.e., loud kids). A nice weekend late breakfast kind of place.
Short and sweet. Wonderfule service, and food. Needs better chairs, and Parking. However you will never leave hungry!
Best Breakfast in LG.
Southern Kitchen provides a varitey of tasty breakfast dishes for everyone from the Eggs Florentine to the Blueberry Bannana Pancakes to the huge 3-4 egg omletes.
The key to this popular Silicon Valley spot is to arrive early- by 9:00am you have the joggers from LG Trail and the late night folks lining up for the great food. Great service from long-time happy staff.
