Rude service.
I was so disappointed by Il Pigalle, and will never go back. Three of my friends and I went for Sunday brunch, ordered champagne and eggs benedict. Tasty but very pricey. The bill came and we paid, but the waiter came back and asked if there had been some problem with the service, as the tip was low. We had all been chatting during the bill-paying part and didn't realize that one of us hadn't ponied up enough. So we gave her a poke and she was a bit short on cash so we chipped in for her share. Then he stood there and insinuated that the tip was still too small and guilted us into putting more in. This was the first time in 35 years of dining I had ever experienced such blatant rudeness.
I will never return.
A strong bite of Parisian flavor in the heart of downtown Los Gatos..
The Scene
If you squint, all the murals at Pigalle might allow you to settle into a Montmartresque fantasy of berets, painters' models and Gauloises. You can't smoke, of course (this is Los Gatos), but an evening at Pigalle is a transporting experience. The Parisian street scenes get you halfway, then the oh-so-French bistro menu escorts you the rest. Pigalle is a romantic restaurant, so invite accordingly. This place is a great special-occasion or first-date spot.
The Food
Dishes are not fussy, with a focus on bright, clean flavors. Look for a classic entrecote, a steak cut from between the ninth and 11th ribs of beef. Cooked quickly, it's tender and napped with a velvety three-peppercorn sauce. For dessert, try the creme brulee, cherries jubilee or the bread pudding.
Want Rude Service. This is the rudest service I've ever had in all my dining experiences. Though the food in both of my experiences was good, the horrible service and being overcharged on our bill reuined the whole experience. We were actually told that they were busy and we could only dine for 1 hr and 20 minutes. We had a pre fixe menu and did not have time to have the desert but were still chared for it.
$30 Appetizers. This is the most un-authentic French restaurant I have had the displeasure to visit. The food is average and sometimes downright tasteless. The wine list is pitiful, lacking obvious details such as origin of wines and year. The most unpleasant suprise, however, was when the bill arrived for my husband's (mediocre) foie gras appetizer - $30!!! And they didn't even have the courtesy or professionalism to warn us of the prices before we ordered. My husband being French, we are always looking for good French restaurants - we suggest you skip this one.
Great Date Place. Quite quaint atmosphere. A little dark, but cozy. Good Service. GREAT food. Prix Fix menu an excellent deal.
