Performing chefs cook up rustic, home-style Italian entrees at this buzzing family restaurant..
In Short
A boisterous, all-ages crowd of pasta lovers pack this energetic Italian spot, where chefs clad in white hats and red scarves keep diners wide-eyed by showing their moves in the busy open kitchen. The menu boasts family-sized portions of hearty traditional fare, from antipasti, chicken and pasta dishes to seafood, steak and wood-fired pizzas. Signature plates include grilled pork chops, lobster ravioli, and penne rustica with shrimp, grilled chicken and smoked prosciutto in cream sauce.

Garbage Found In Food.
Monday, August 6th, I took my elderly mother and my daughter out to dinner to the Macaroni Grill in Elk Grove, CA. We all three ordered the same meal (Shrimp Portofino). I found an old cigarette butt, leaves, dirt and garbage in all three of our meals. I have launched a complaint with the County Health Dept and have also contacted and reported this to Macaroni Grill's corporate office. I received a call from the district office's manager and was told that he had conducted an investigation at the restaurant and found that a batch of mushrooms had been dropped while they were delivered which is how the garbage got in our food. I personally do not believe this, the mushrooms were cooked in a sauce yet the garbage was not in the sauce but was mixed in the meal and the leaves and dirt was dry and brittle. I truly believe that this was done intentionally. Needless to say I will never eat at this restaurant and frankly, do not feel comfortable eating out at all at this point. I have not been satisfactorily dealt with regarding this matter either.

Service is horrible!.
Like most of the reviewers here, My b/f and I had a gift card and I had a pleasurable experience coming to this restaurant in another state. So we thought, what the hell. We had a show to go to at 10pm so we thought having a reservation at 8pm would suffice. Boy, were we wrong! We get there at about 15 minutes before the reservation and waited for about 30 minutes. After being seated, we waited 15 minutes for even a bus boy to acknowledge our existance. Our waiter finally came, wrote his name in crayon, gave us olive oil to dip our bread in but he gave us no bread, no water. We had to wait another 15 minutes for him to even come back with bread and to order diet soda! This waiter seemed to not care about giving any sort of decent service whatsoever. We didn't even get our entree until 9pm! He decided to chat with my b/f about the greatness of dr. pepper an why more people don't order it instead of providing any customer service. Everything we had to ask twice for and that included a to-go box! Avoid this place like the plague! Go to FJ&L's (Frankie Johnnie and Luigi) because service is much better, the food is much better, and the prices are better.

all i miss is the pork chop.
all of the food are just too salty. we had a group of 12 persons. believe it or not, all the food are just too salty (pasta, salmon.....). But i found this place is quite interesting. I did not have the bad service experience like the other reviews. But i definately will try to eat the pork chop again to confirm it is from the cook or it's just me.
by the way, the whole place is kind of dark. take some times for us to adjust to the eyes and read the menu. i guess it's supposed to be romantic... but it's noisy...

Worse servive ever.
If I could give a negative rating, I would. We waited 45 minutes to be seated, despite having a reservation. The waitress repeatedly forgot our drinks and orders. The chicken canollenni did not have any chicken at all. My chicken marsala tasted microwaved. But worse of all, the manager was incredibly rude. I don't have enough space here to go into details, but DO NOT GO TO MAC GRILL if you value quality service.
