My business will always be with University. Another kitchen, another great experience. Even when by Miele dishwasher arrived in a perfect box but had a dent on the door they rushed a panel out to me and put it on the same day so I wouldn't have to deal with a service call. This is my third kitchen in 35 years and my kids even shop here now. Great Family business and great customer service as always.
Terrible service, no appliance arrived. We have been a longtime customer of University Electric, occasionally buying quantities of appliances in a single order. IE, 10 refrigerators at a time. In the past, we have had to call them to find out if an item had arrived at the store, only to learn that it had been sitting there for some number of days. Our most recent experience was a disaster. We were quoted a price on a new refridgerator, and a somewhat pricy delivery and haul away fees. We opted to order the item, and do a will call, and attend to our own delivery and haul-aways. Delivery was quoted as one week, and that that supplier delivered on wednesdays. Wednesday came and went without a call. On Wed Evening, we called University, and were put on hold for 5 minutes, and then were told that the item was on back order??? we inquired as to a new delivery date, and the sales person said they would call back with the info. No call-back. On Thursday we tried again, and the owner said that our refrig would be delivered to Los Angeles next week, and provided that there was at least 25 other items ready for shipment from LA to santa clara, then our Refridg would be delivered the following week. I think we are done with University Electric. What a shame, but we just dont find them to be reliable anymore.
Awesome personal service. I had been shopping for a kitchen appliance package and was referred to Standards by a friend. I went there and was PUSHED into Kitchenaid brand appliances even against my wishes. The salesman was pushy and would not answer any questions, it was all about price. My contractor referred me to University Electric so I went there on a Saturday and was pleased to see that they had the appliances I was asking for from Stand. The salesperson, Andy, gave me his opinon on the brands I wanted versus what Stand had suggested. Andy told me that even though Kitchenaid was a good brand the products I had selected on my own were better because of customer service issues and features. The package arrived early January and we are extremely pleaded. We called a couple of times to have dimensions faxed to our contractor and whoever answered the phone, Mark I think, sent them right away. I talked to my friend about Stand and he told me that the people there get a kickback from Kitchenaid to sell their stuff and that is why they push that brand. That sickended me. My friend is maybe not so much of a source of information I thought. Thanks Andy and crew at UE. Great job and I plan to recommend you to all my friends.
University Electric Rocks!. Don't bother with other appliance stores. Go straight to University Electric. We just did a new kitchen project and I did my due diligence and researched all my appliances and vendors in the area and online. After deciding on buying locally, I visited several showrooms and was very annoyed at the heavy pressure to buy and the lack of product knowledge by the staff. Some sales people just made things up as they went along! I was so relieved to walk into University Appliance. EJ showed me all the appliances I was interested in and was low pressure. I took my time to decide and called back in a rush and EJ took care of me. They were effective and efficient, and best of all, everyone at University Electric were so courteous and a pleasure to do business with. Any future appliance purchases will be with University Electric, hands down!
Great customer service. My wife and I went to University Electric on the recommendation of our contractor and a friend. It was busy but we did not have to wait long. The salesperson who waited on us took his time to explain the features of the appliances we wanted to buy. We spent about an hour or so and he gave us a quote. I was amazed that throughout the sales presentation we were not pressured to buy, this has been our experience with most major purchases. We made two more trips into the store before we made our purchase. The appliances were delivered in cartons and were put into our garage and our contractor installed them. We now have a beautiful kitchen with awesome appliances that work great. Our purchase was about $16,000.00. After reading the reviews below and being in retail myself (furniture store owner) I decided to write this review. I understand that not everyone can be satisfied with even the best service. From what I saw on my 3 trips to the store and phone calls, delivery, etc. These guys know what they are doing. I am sure that the from how many customers they take care of that only a small few walk away with a bad experience, unfortunately those are who usually write complaining. If all the satisfied customers would write in there would probably be pages of praise.
Extremely Rude Service.
Extremely rude service! Do not bother with this business. I went to their store today to buy $7000 worth of appliances and the sales rep was so rude I decided not to buy from them even through their prices were lower than other stores. I ask the salesman's if I found a cheaper price would they match it if I bought it all today. He rudely claimed I won't find it cheaper and they don't price match guarantee. I had enough of his smug attitude and got a price quote from the store and went straight to Sears. Sears matched their price with an extra ten percent off. I guess this company thinks they have the market cornered and can treat their customers poorly. Well keep treating people like dirt and you won't have a business.
However, on a positive side, use this store to go see a large variety of brands but buy somewhere where you are valued as a customer.
Don't expect a lot of customer service for what you pay for.... We found this place through research online. The showroom isn't too bad, and there is a variety of items available to look at. The sales force was engaged, but only after you got one to talk to you (it was busy on Saturday). The refrigerator we bought was the floor model, but it was more or less brand new (no observable scratches on the face of the door, pristine interior). Of course, the price "was right". The sales person promised it would be cleaned and wrapped well for delivery. However, on delivery day, we received this item in a damaged state, with minor scratches and a fairly apparent dent in the door. The fridge had not been wrapped to any degree either, and the bottom freezer door kept sliding in and out as they unloaded it from the truck. Needless to say we rejected the delivery. On a follow up trip back to the store (and another wait), our sales person attributed the problem to bad delivery people, but these are members of their own business and not a 3rd party! In the store, we actually saw them complaining to each other! It was terrible, and showed exactly the type of service that they really provide! At this point a week later, we're still working on getting the refund on our credit card - they appear to be trying to delay repayment for some reason and we were given a receipt which had not transacted (ie. no approval code, etc)! Terrible experience and absolute terrible customer service behavior, but you get what you pay for. We ended up getting our fridge from Airport Appliance in Hayward, and have not had any problems at all!
Bad Merchandise. They have a big selection, but their sales staff is not in a hurry to sell anything. I did not enjoy the experience when I purchased a Viking Professional 1 year ago. Even bigger mistake, I did not purchase an extended warranty. My oven went out completely after just using the convection for the 4th time in a little over a year. Are there really that many lemons out there or is it just sub-standard products? I bought a Bosch dishwasher at the same time and that has already had problems as well. Don't forget your extended warranties! (which you really shouldn't need)
