A cozy welcome to "my neighborhood."
The Food
Mio Vicino means "my neighborhood" in Italian, and that about sums up the kind of place Mio Vicino is trying to be. Pastas sometimes miss the mark with improbable combinations, but the Caesar salad, pizzas, and tiramisu have a broad following. Kids won't go for the pancetta-wrapped radicchio, so while you're tucking into that, order them a cheese pie. The house wine, Mio Red, is big, fruity, and a great value.
The Scene
There are three outlets of this family-friendly Italian restaurant. The one in Campbell is located in the Old Town area with a view of the water tower. An open kitchen keeps the place lively, especially for those cozied up at a counter seat. The flagship Santa Clara spot has pretty yellow brick walls and lots of windows and the Willow Glen location is bigger, with a rich, earthtone interior.

With so many Italian restaurants in the area, it's hard for one to stand out for me. However, I've always liked Mio Vicino. It's a gem hidden in a old strip mall. Once you eat there, you're hooked. Everything taste so fresh and delicious.

I and my wife went there on a Friday night. We ordered a pasta and a pizza. The pasta is too expensive (~$15) given it's quantity and quality (angel hair pasta a little over-cooked). I'd rather go to Pomodoro or Cheese Cake Factory for pasta. The worst part is the pizza. It is under-baked and there are too much juice left on the pie. When I pull up a piece of pizza, the cheese and tomato just come off the slice and the slice was dripping! My wife decided to give it another chance by ordering a creme brule. It has a lot of strawberry on top of it, which seems nice. But there was a 3mm thick burned caramel beneath it and I have to get rid of the caramel crust. The food here is a shame. By the way, the guests of two other tables also couldn't finish the food and boxed the left over. Guess what, the guests of both tables "forgot" to take the boxes when they left.

Hidden in a small shopping plaza just minutes from Santa Clara University is a charming Italian restaurant Mio Vicino. With a large variety of food and reasonable prices, this restaurant has good basic dining good for family, students and friends. There is also a private room in the back that can be rented for parties or small groups. They do serve beer and wine- the wine is basic and not a top shelf.
