What People Are Saying About Viaggio Ristorante Mediterraneo

The Food – Meals start with intense tapenade and crusty bread. From there, a tapas platter is a wise way to sample a variety of Mediterranean concoctions-grilled eggplant, a ceviche-inspired seafood salad--before settling down with an entree. In the warmer months, don't miss the gazpacho, but otherwise move on to one of the veal scaloppini dishes or a vibrantly sauced fillet of fish. Entrees stick closer to Italy (all the better to be paired with one of Viaggio's crisp Pinot Grigios) with judicious dips into the sunnier, more exotic parts of the Mediterranean. For dessert, the…
Customer Loyalty Not a Priority Here!

Laura Reiley's editorial review is outdated.... AJ is no longer the chef there and the ownership has changed hands, which is extremely unfortunate. Viaggio's was my favorite restaurant in Saratoga so when my husband and I got married a few years ago, a friend gave us a $50 gift certificate to Viaggio. I had recommended she and her husband spend their anniversary dinner there as well. The year after our wedding was extremely busy and the gift certificate showed an expiration date from one month prior when I finally called to make reservations. A few years earlier, a law had passed that disallows businesses from using expiration dates on paid gift certificates. I assumed the certificates were simply old ones that still had that info, but after numerous phone calls to the owner, I was continually told by an employee that the owner would not honor the gift certificate. The owner never even called me back himself. Their excuse was that since they bought the restaurant and the certificate was purchased by my friend prior to their buying the restuarant, they did not feel responsible for honoring it, even though they are still doing business under the Viaggio name. I wrote a letter which also fell on deaf ears. In the letter I suggested that the negative comments that are passed from person to person about an experience like this is far more costly than serving a meal. I did not receive a reply to the letter.
Way to ruin a special night., (Cont...,part 3 )

There is no bright side because all 3 of the couples that sat near us complained as well and I am sure they are telling those around them of their disspopinting evening at Viaggios!!
I know this was rough but you need to know, I had the perfect Valentine's Day set up and your restaurant ruined the night!
Honestly disspointed,

4 star restaurant, 3 star price, great value!

After making thaksgiving reservations, and subsequently reading the reviews on City Search(I did it backwards, I know.) We were pleasantly suprised on thanksgiving at Viaggio's buffet, the food was excellent, the service was on par with the the best I've experienced in my life(46 years), and they were even so kind as to send my wife off with a couple of extra desserts at the end of our evening...I wish all restaurants were this good, excellent food and super attentive staff. My wife and I will definitely come back here for special occasions. I don't know what the deal was with the previous negative reviews,
This is the first review I've been compelled to write on City Search, because I had such a wonderfull time at Viaggio I would hate to have people pass up dining there because of a couple of negative reviews.
- Pros: attentive staff, excellent food, nice atmosphere
- Cons: none, none, none
Inconsistent or lesser chef?

Six people who eat out a lot ordered six different entrees. Everything was pretty good, but nothing was delicious or interesting or exciting. The room was nice, the service was good. But we went after another event in the area, which meant we arrived at 5:30 pm, so the place was empty when we got there. It did fill up.
It's B+ kind of place. There are much better restaurants in Saratoga. Some, like Bangkok Palace, are cheaper and better. Others like Sent Sovi are more expensive and better.
- Pros: location, decor, restrooms
- Cons: almost bland food
Tasteless food for too much $ and a grumpy waiter
by minicritic at Citysearch
We went to Viaggio for the first time last night (solely because we couldn't get in at The Basin down the street). Aside from poor quality filet mignon, the scallops in the seafood pasta were chewy, tasted metallic and left a horrible after taste. When we alerted the waiter, he offered to bring us more shrimp instead (thanks?) and didn't take a cent off the bill. Combine that with mediocre wine, half foam beers and an hour long wait for our meals and well... you see where this is going. There are lots of great restaurants in Saratoga. This is not one of them. If tempted to enter (as we were) by the fact that they had space for us at 7PM on a Friday night, pause to consider why that might be, and then RUN the other way.
- Pros: Pianist
- Cons: Poor quality seafood, Overpriced
