Best Hunan in South Bay ... and beyond !. Have been searching for hot and spicy food in the South Bay for 5 years now and finally have found the perfect place. Hunan Taste not only has the spicyness to it's food, but it's very flavorful. The Hot and Sour soup is made fresh upon ordering. Had the Hot and Sour beef that was outstanding. Plenty of spices and wonderful flavors. Smoked Chicken and Spareribs were also ordered and just as delicious. The staff and what I assume were owner were delightful, prompt and courteous. Everything was made when ordered and didn't sit in the kitchen under a heat lamp. You could watch the cooks making everything with such precision and passion. I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who's looking for authentic Hunan dishes!!!

Hot and delicious Chinese. Finally a Chinese restaurant that isn't afraid of spicy food. Some places cater too much to middle of the road palettes that what they consider spicy is merely tingly. Hunan Taste has alot of hot dishes, which explains some of the Indian clientele who know spicy food when they taste it. In addition they have a variety of meatless items available which also makes it popular for vegetarians. For the bamboo lover, it's in almost everything! It's in a simple mini-mallish row of businesses that you might not notice, away from most high-traffic commercial areas. Their quaint interior boast restaurant reviews and pictures of various people, including celebrities who have frequented their restaurant. The host/waiter, and I assume owner, is always there so service is quick and polite. You can see into the kitchen so you see it's fresh and not sitting under a heat-lit buffet. Haven't made it at lunchtime but have heard it's busy. If you can't handle hot food this is not for you; spare the table and go to a Mr. Chau's. This place is definitely frequented by locals who can handle the peppers.

The best Hunan. This place was opened in 1989 when two of the folks at the Hunan opened by Henry Chung in San Francisco left to open this place in San Jose. The service is great, the food is phenomenal and there is not one bad dish on the menu. Smoked Ham with Chicken and the Bean Curd with Meat Sauce are my favorites but I hardly would limit my world to two dishes. You must go there.

Best in the City!. Great food, great service. I have never had a bad meal here. San Jose has some of the worst restaurants I've ever been to. I come from Chicago, where there is a good restaurant on every corner. This place ranks with some of the better Chicago chinese places. If you want atmosphere... go somewhere else, but if you want an excellent Hunan shredded pork... this is the spot!
