The Food

The inventive folks at Pizz'a Chicago have done a great job naming their pizzas. Try the Great Chicago Fire, a hot mix of Italian sausage, "sport peppers," fresh garlic and sun-dried tomatoes; or the Rush Street, a meat lover's delight with pepperoni, Canadian bacon, sausage, linguica and meatballs. Hockey lovers should try the Blackhawk, named after the NHL's greatest team, which offers sausage, ricotta cheese, sweet red pepper, lemon zest, fresh oregano and cracked pepper. It's as sensational as Bobby Hull. Don't hesitate to look beyond the pizzas here. The Ditka is a great calzone with provolone, spinach, black olives, fresh garlic, basil and pepperoncini. The Papa Bear is a hot Italian beef sandwich served with gravy for dipping. They also serve Chicago Vienna beef hot dogs--the world's best dogs.

Do not order pizza from here for home delivery! We ordered from Pizz'a Chicago because they were the only place we found right away that served deep-dish Chicago Style pizza. So we decided to give them a try. When they took my order, I had to repeat my address and my order twice. I told them I had a coupon for a large specialty pizza and after ordering a half Sears Tower/half Rush Street, I was asked what size pizza I wanted... reminding them that I'm using a coupon for a large specialty pizza. I was told that our pizza would take 45 min-1 hour for delivery. It took about and 15 minutes. The delivery person asked for more than what the total should have been, and had to remind him as well that we were using a coupon for a large specialty. He then re-did the math in his head, and we tipped accordingly. We took the pizza in to the kitchen and opened it up. It was only very mildly warm at best. Half the pizza was correct... the other half not what I ordered at all. Trying twice to call back to address the issue, I was put on hold where I was kept on hold for over 20 minutes and never had someone pick the phone back up to even inform someone directly of the discrepancies. I will never be ordering from them again. It was quite literally the worst delivery ordering experience I've ever had. I would warn others to order at their own risk.

Their delivery was fast! They quoted me 1 hour and got here in 40 minutes. The pizza was hot and delicious as usual.

I first found Pizza Chicago when I lived in Santa Clara. I found their pizza to be fantastic, all though the price reflected a quality pizza. Still I never purchased from anyone but Pizza Chicago Santa Clara. I moved to the Burbank neighborhood of San Jose, and now had to order from the Pizza Chicago in Downtown SJ. The first couple of times I ordered, the delivery took over 90 minutes. I also found that their quality and recipe was not quite the level of the Santa Clara store. I always ordered the Joilet Jake, and enjoyed the strips of portobello mushrooms, the Downtown store used just pieces of portobello, and not many at that. Also, their prices were on average $1 more per pie. Still I found the pizza to be better quality than quick delivery places. The last occassion I ordered from this store, I had friends coming over, and ordered several pies. After about 90 minutes, I called the store to inquire about my order, they said the driver was at my complex and should be there any minute. After another 30 minutes I called again, they said the driver couldn't find my apartment. I spoke to the manager, who seemed to care less that I had waited over 2 hours and still didn't have pizza. After another 15 minutes asking where the driver was, I told them I would go to the front of the complex and the driver could meet me there. So 2 hours and 30 minutes after I ordered, I finally got my pizza. Needless to say the quality was less than acceptable. I was still charged full price, and told by the driver to call the manager the next day about it, as the store was closed now. I did not call the manager, and never purchased from them again. Recently I have moved back to the Santa Clara area, and fortunately can easily order from the Santa Clara store.
