San Jose >J J's Blues
Absolutely Love the Blues!. I can’t tell you how many times I have been to this place – and every time you come away with a wonderful and enjoyable experience! The music the people just an all out great time!
Service is EVERYTHING IN BUSINESS.
I agree that JJ's is a good place to to listen to top local blues talent. One thing I hear from almost 75% of guests is about the rude, incoherent bartender/door cashier! She costs the club guests and that is money. I used to go there whether or not there was music just to hang out and enjoy the bartenders and friends. The music was a plus and top notch!
You need repeat customers who support the touring talent by buying drinks to pay for that talent! Spend some money on Personable, respectful, outgoing help and this place will become a Gold Mine AGAIN!!
Talent Scout hangout.
I have to disagree with the review about JJ's going down. I believe this is not Johnnies fault but the fact that Live Music is getting harderr to find and is less promoted than it used to be. Johnnie has always treated me and My guests with respect and I know he appreciates the artists who play at his Joint. I frequently go there to scout talent and have been introduced to many of the Local (Bay Area) artists by showing up on open Mike Night. If you are an artist needing a Gig or someone to jam with it could be to your benifit to go there. You never know who may be watchiing you : ) My only complaint EVER was that the girl who collects the cover should really take some classes in social behavior skills. She seems to think shes all that and everyone should recognize it. Sorry she just rubs me wrong since when I go there it is more frequently on Business than just to hang out with the cool people. I have brought in guest with clout and some locals who are trying to break in and on all those occasions she really spoiled the ambiance that I was boasting people like Chrissy (only one of the foxy bartenders) bring to the place. Johnnie thanks for being there to keep the music alive.
Oh BTW single ladies I have alot of fun being there with you as well. Please keep comming.
Enjoy what night clubs are supposed to be.
Be sure to also say HI to Kirk (next door) A Slice of NY Pizza rocks too!

JJ's is going down.
Ever since Johnny Perkins has taken over ownership, JJ's Blues Lounge has been on a downward spiral.
The place is dead, even when big names are in town. From what I hear, the word is out among the touring blues band that JJ's should be overlooked because the crowds are gone. I wish JJ's would go under so someone else would start a respectable blues club in the southbay. It's to bad because June put her life into this place and to see it take the turn it has is really upsetting. Johnny if you read, this please sell JJ's before you run it all the way into the ground. If Johnny treated the musicians and patrons with more respect maybe his club would gain more respect.
Best live music spot in town.. Great national and local blues talent nightly. Intimate venue gets you close to the talent. Small dance floor right in front of the stage allows you to get down with the band.
The top blues joint in Silicon Valley..
Wedged into a strip mall along with a camping supply center, the long, narrow space manages to fit in a stage, a few tables, a long bar, and a pool table. The simplistic but highly effective sound system blares the best efforts of blues acts ranging from the great to the mediocre. There's a good cultural and age mix among the blues-hounds who haunt this venue. Dress is casual; atmosphere is relaxed; life is good.
Blues isn't supposed to come in a pretty package. JJ's is an old-fashioned dive that could properly be referred to as a "joint." Proper joints that offer headliner-type musical acts are hard to come by in SV. For that reason alone, JJ's is worth recommending.
one of a kind in the valley.... The only decent blues venue in the South Bay. National touring acts and excellent young local up-and-comers alike pass through JJ's. The early evening blues jams are often as good or better than the headliners.
