On a slow night great but on weekends the place is pretty shoulder to shoulder especially out back, good staff, good live music, little small, compared to their down town location, two story.
The best food and atmosphere.Big sceens good pub good beer. Everything 10/10 i live in England When visiting my son who lives in san jose we alwasy come here at least 4/5 times5 stars no problem!!!
Going Down Hill.
I lived in Almaden Valley for a long time and have watched the Brit decay. The service gets worse and worse each year. I finally got fed up with their changing clothing rules and rude waitresses. I now go to Branham Lounge, much friendlier!
Cheers!
Need a place that I want!. I'm looking for a sports bar that offers many screens, cool hang out, where you feel welcome. I would also want to know if there are any reccomendations for this weekends fight Paquio Barrera. Where is the best bar to watch boxing?
This English pub is a friendly mishmash of hot singles scene, sports bar and karaoke laughs..
The Scene
Britannia Arms is one of the top pickup spots in this area of San Jose. People drink Boddingtons and Coronas and chat up the opposite sex. There's a dance floor for grooving with a new acquaintance, but the best place on a warm summer night is the large outdoor area. Televisions let you catch the latest game while munching on pub grub. There's live music Thursday through Saturday (don't miss Frank Joseph if he's playing), but some of the best moments come from crowd members doing karaoke on Wednesdays and Sundays.
The Draw
As one would expect from the British fare, you won't go wrong with the fish-and-chips, meat pies or bangers and mash. And the excellent draft selection features an array of British, European and American brews.
POOR SERVICE AND BAD MANAGEMENT. I was at Britannia of Almaden on July 19, 2002 having dinner with my girlfriend. To make the story short, the waitress was extremely rude, never come by to ask us how our food was, and give us a rude attitude when we asked about the Happy Hour. Was not friendly at all, no eye contact, and just plain rude. We then asked for the manager that night to complained about the situation, he didn't seem to care about it. He keeps making excuses and hope that we enjoy the food and that we should come back in the near future. No way, we are not coming back. This place needs some real restaurant customer's service, and should care more about the patrons. This place has good food and decent price, but need to improve customer's service alot. Thank you and hope this get back to the manager.
