Editorial Review for Starving Musician – by Pamela Russell
Whatever You Want, Man
This is where musicians go to get new and used gear cheap, and where parents can offload long-forgotten flutes. Starving does deals that work for everyone. If there's no rush, they're honest about the best way for sellers to go. Order by phone, but the advantage of the brick-and-mortar is it's one stop shopping, people try before they buy, and the tongue in cheek, radical atmosphere of decades past (the logo's a headshot of a screaming guy) makes it fun.
A Psychedelic Citadel
They stockpile big name guitars, keys, drums, mikes, cords, amps, shirts, strings, pedals, and peripherals. Layaway is for 90 days with 25 percent down. Used gear is warranteed for 90 days; consigned gear is sold 'as is.' There are caveats regarding shipping and returns; read everything carefully.

Insider Tips
Axe MenTo buy/sell school band instruments, contact Jeff White. For guitars, keys and other stuff, talk to Aaron Goodwin. Consignors get a 75/25 split. Music lessons are available only at the Willow Glen store.
Go Ahead Punk, Mike My AccordionThey coined the phrase "Play an Accordion, Go to Jail." Hook up a fuzzy wah-wah to yours for fun and listen while Seżor Welk does 180's. It's okay; you won't really go to jail.
