Tips for The Original Pancake House

Made-to-order breakfasts---including over a dozen unique flapjacks---stack the odds in this restaurant's favor.. In Short
Founded in Oregon circa 1953, this simply-furnished spot owes its success to its creative menu and fresh ingredients. Batters are made on the premises; a special "sourdough starter" keeps treats from tasting overly sweet. Patrons choose from eggs, waffles, crepes and oven-baked omelets, as well as signature plates like blueberry pancakes (served with or without compote), giant cinnamon-glazed apple pancakes, thin and chewy "49-ers" and the air-filled, lemon-and-sugar-topped "Dutch Baby."

great breakfasts. My wife and I loved the food and the service was slow enough to allow conversation without being annoying. We enjoy the wide selection and the friendly servers. This is not fast food so don't expect it.

Fresh food not fast food. This is one of the best places to go for breakfast. Every thing is freshly made. The pancakes are great. The coffee and side orders taste like home made. New locations are in Hayward and Fremont.

Waiting for nothing. I'm not sure if the ownership has changed hands recently, but this place does not deserve a good rating. Their food is dry and bland, which you need to wait at least an hour to get. The pancake variety is interesting, and they have many unique dishes, but believe me its not worth the wait. I have been to this restaurant twice now and needless to say I will never go there again, nor will I recommend it to anyone I know.

Very disappointed! Brought two out-of-town guest for breakfast here this morning.. One of us in wheelchair- Waitress removed a chair from table and left it in aisleway...

later banged my friend in back with chair when she was preparing for table of six.

Resaurant was dirty, waiter was rude, food mediocre and down right bland.

Over-easy egg was hyper-oily.Asked for jam and got a single measly packet.

Never recieved Orange Juice we ordered.

Waitress calling me "Hon." I hate that!!!

Plus, they were yelling to each other to get stuff for other customers.-

They weren't even busy and with service like this

-they won't be open much longer.

Are you people crazy?. Wow. All I can say is that this is by far the worst breakfast place my boyfriend and I have ever been to.

The "oven-baked" omelette was disgusting. It tasted and looked like college food haphazardly combined with leftovers and a microwave. The poached egg over biscuit sausage with mushroom gravy was way too mushroom-y and the poached egg was cooked all the way through.

Service: just read the other comments. Slow, took forever to get to us. The waitress never asked us if we needed anything, she just set the food down and brought over a check 3 minutes later.

We both left with stomachaches. In fact, seven hours later I still have one :P My boyfriend is nodding in agreement.

Decent Breakfast with Questionable Service. I didn't believe the other reviewers, but here it is: the service here is pretty shoddy. There was a couple next to us who literally sat there bored out of their minds waiting 10+ minutes to get boxes and the check and the server (our beloved server and theirs) passed several times without concern. For shame. The food was so-so. Save your money.

Great food, average service. The food was excellent, we had the pecan pancakes and the Apple one, which we would definitely recommend, it's definitely big enough for 2 persons. The pancakes came with this home-made marmelade that was fantastic. The service was a bit slow, we had to ask for cream a few times for our coffee, but overall, a great breakfast. I would definitely recommend it.

Fantastic Breakfast Place. My husband and I always love to find great breakfast places and happened on this restaurant driving in San Jose. They have a great selection of pancakes (we had a tough time deciding which pancakes we'd share) and we ordered an omelette. The omelettes are baked: it was huge!!! We ended up ordering the blueberry pancakes, they served with warm blueberry compote and syrup. The service was very friendly (perhaps family owned)...Next time, we're considering ordering the Dutch Oven (looks like a basket baked pancake - you'll have to see it to understand it).

Friendly and best place for breakfast!!. I've been eating at the Original Pancake House for at least fifteen years and always had a great dinning experience! Not only have three generations of my family eaten at the restaurant, but I dated my wife and met her for breakfast there too!! The service is very prompt, courteous and customer oriented. The food is always served quickly and with a smile. The choices of food center around - what else, "pancakes", however there is a larger selection of egg dishes as well. The atmosphere is open, relaxing and clean. As a repeat customer for many years, I HIGHLY recommend this breakfast and lunch spot to anyone looking for a wonderful meal!
