The "Sunset" is a MUST-TRY!.
The Sunset. Quail egg, tobiko, yellowtail. $8.25 and worth every penny!!! That alone gives Yuri 5 untouchable stars...period.
Oh, they have many other delish guest creations and specialty rolls and I highly rate Yuri as "California Sushi" but not so much "Authentic Sushi" (California = creative rolls with mixed ingredients and special sauces. Authentic = nigiri or sashimi...awesomely fresh...pure fish...heavenly.)
Their rice tea is fabulous...I ask for a glass of ice on the side and make my own "iced rice tea"...LOVE it!
Yuri is without a doubt the best sushi restaurant in the SF bay area..
Really, no exaggeration. But: stay away if you have trouble understanding heavy accents and don't really like sushi. The waitresses will be rude to "newbies" who waste their time trying to decide what to order. People with above average IQ's and healthy egos will recognize this as the mark of a place where the food is great, and the staff have above average IQ's and are allowed to have normal human egos (too).

Birthday dinner, more than 6, wishing different..
For a girlfriends birthday, a group of 7 of us wanted sushi for grubbing. I definately knew a whole bunch of great places, majoirty in cupertino area i may add, yet wanted to try some place different for a chance. Okay, plus we had a coupon. Had reservations for 9, closed at 9:30; first server (older asian woman) took our order. Unfortunatly, i have a hard time with heavy accents as it is, yet when it comes to food, i like to know all the details of what I was getting myself into, which i had no hopes of achieving (not for sushi beginners). In addition, the woman walked away from our table with a scowl upon her face. Literally. We never saw her the rest of the evening, and were then served by another waitress, who seemed much more friendly.
Yes, the food was par. Just that. Oh, teryaki chicken was overcooked, miso soup lacking any substance in veggies or originality, and uninspired food preparation all left me empty.
Oh, i still filled up on rice (that's how sushi restaurants make their money between rice bowls and in sushi).
---Philedelphia rolls were worst i had ever had (usually big fan, not so here). Good unagi (eel)
--Sushi itself was not so bad now that i recall, yet stay away from dinner plates, not worth the buck.
Overall, poor waiting, par food, yet good atmosphere, but who wants to pay for that. Oh, and pricey-er than usual, i thought.
excellent sushi. i have been eating at this restaurant for years, and have never been disappointed. the service can be a bit slow, but it is well worth the wait. i am very picky about my sushi, and theirs is always fresh and tasty. the sushi menu is extensive and offers much more than the usual cali rolls or tekka maki. dragon roll and caterpillar roll are especially good. if you are in the mood for something indulgent, try the sensual pleasure...tuna wrapped rosebud style around creamy scallop salad...pure heaven!!
excellent. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Sushi is the best in the Bay Area, and the kitchen food is excellent. You can go all around the bay and not find a better Japanese Restaurant. I've always been treated very well here, and always feel welcome. With so many Japanese restaurants around starting the nightclub atmosphere trend, it's really refreshing to go to a nice, family-oriented restaurant with a friendly atmosphere.
User review by aha. I've been going here for years, and it is always great. Although I don't always see the owner anymore, the sushi is so fresh. I always sit at the bar since the dining area is a bit slow. The service is average btu come for the sushi.
Horrible customer service at the counter.
I tried all 3 of their bento box and their teriyakis are always overcooked. California roll is poorly made where 2/3 is advacoda. Their Tempura needs better coating.
Customer service is the worse I have ever seen. Credit card was thrown back at me on the counter and gave me the plastic bag to wrap up my own bento box. Once the worker have my bento box in her hand and started chatting to other workers. I waited 3 minutes and have to cut her short in order to get my bento box to go.
Food is average but the customer service at the counter is horrible. They are the only japanese restaurant nearby and I'm still not going back again.
