Buca Di Beppo. A popular place for gatherings/parties. You have to wait even if you make a reservation. Go in big gropus because they serve super big portions there. Love their chicken marsala (4 pcs of breasts). A small size of Linguini & clams can stuff 4-6 people full, but it's lack of taste and made with canned clams and little watery butter sauce. Eggplant parmasean was crispy and good. Thin crust pizza is good too, but watch out for some weird varieties. Fried calarmari is ok, the marinara sauce is pretty good, usually ask for extra to go with my foccacia. Garlic bread isn't that good. You shouldn't try to order too much carbo since things are already in big portions.
Fun, but not romantic. Bucca is a great place to meet with a large group of friends or family. But, if a date took my there for a romantic dinner, it would be our last.
big proportions, small price.
while I didn't personally care for the ambience - it's a family restaurant (whining kids), lots of big loud parties, and silly decorations on the walls; some people will love this place - and the dessert is to die for!
and cheap! and big proportions!
Buca de Beppo. Sorry to say that some people just don't have a clue as to what real Italian food is. As in some of the Mexican restaurants in this valley, Beppo's food is too Americanized and bland. I'm no expert, but as a visitor to Italy, and as a person married to an Italian family for 42 years, this food doesn't even compare to the real thing!
Buca di Big Portions.
Buca restaurants can be found all around Northern and Southern California.
I've eaten twice at the Buca eatery. And, yes, Buca does have the biggest portions around, but how much pasta can one or two people eat? At the price they charge, I would expect much more than spaghetti with a watery tomato sauce
If you are a party of 4 or more, perhaps the value is there, but for my money, The Old spaghetti Factory is the place.
Beppo's has more plastic popes and photos of Sophia Loren in industrial-strength lingerie than should ever be assembled under one roof..
The Scene
Like the other Beppos, this one cultivates a happy mayhem, dragging would-be diners smack through the hubbub of the kitchen in order to find a table. Each room is named with a theme (the pope room is overseen by the bust of the Holy Father on a lazy Susan, the men's room creates a pictorial homage to the relevant bodily functions).
The Food
The concept is this: Food comes in two sizes, huge and scary huge. So Beppo makes for a lousy date place. But that's OK-man cannot live by dates alone. Beppo's there for all those other kinds of gatherings. A fiendishly happy service staff brings simple dishes, generously flavored with garlic, tomato and chile flakes; and everyone seems to be having a fine old time.
a fun way to get lots of food. NOT a romance place - this is what the West Coast envisions to be a "typical" Italian family place - the small differences: in Italy places hava a real history rather than one generated, people have taste and the food - even simple food like Spaghetti Marinara are good - even when the portions are big.
multobene! Awesome. Very good food, served Family style (large Portions). Fun and Exciting atmosphere.
Balls as big as your head!!. Yummm! Buca'a Meat Balls are wonderful! I wouls say that they have the BEST Chicken Parmigiana, Bruschetta, and Ravioli al Pomodoro. If you are going to have a large party that wants to have fun, GOTO BUCA! They have great food and a wonderful kitchen. I love the fact that you can walk in a see what they are doing. The food is great. Ambience ~ Great. Service ~ pretty good (It's hard to find any place in the San Jose that has really good service. Value~Great! Overall I would say ~ Wonderful place to go to take out of town family and friends to "WOW" them
Ultimate Food Coma. This place has portions the size you have NEVER seen! It's not cheap for just a couple to go, but if you go as a group of 6 or more, then you can share three menu items and that's probably plenty!!
