***HAWG WILD***.
First of all, I am not from San Jose. I was here on a business trip from the East Coast. I am from a seafood town, so I definitely know what I'm talking about.
From the time I entered the door to the time I left I was impressed. The staff was very friendly, the server was just the cutest little thing who did a great job making me feel welcome and describing the specials.
My appetizer (ahi tuna) was plated so elegantly and perfectly prepared. It was probably "the best" ahi tuna appetizer I have ever had!
My entree (grilled salmon) came out timely and was plated with the same level of excellence. Although the menu described an accompaniment of potato pancakes, the server suggested a substitution of roasted potatoes. They were OK, but nothing to rave about. The vegetable medley was picture perfect, crisp, colorful and meticulously prepared. The salmon was absolutely fantastic. Not overdone, perfectly seasoned and just flaked on my fork. Kudos to the chef and staff for hitting a home run on both appetizer and entree.
My parking ticket (parked in the adjacent lot) was validated without question. Very nice convenience.
Bottom line is I give Hawg's the Hank's Stamp of Excellence! Hank knows seafood! Hank tells it like it is! This place is a keeper! Enjoy!
Generous Yet Uneven. One night after a NHL game and a convention had let out, Hawg's was one of the few places with seating available. I ordered the steak and shrimp special with the garlic cheese bread. The plate had a base of steamed veggies, about 4 cups worth. Off one side of the veggie hill was a very nice potato-garlic mash; however it was in the mash that my shrimps were stuck upside down perhaps due to lack of space. Leaning on the other side of veggie hill was the steak. All of this was wading in a puddle of what tasted to be a watered down barbeque sauce. The steak while good screamed for either horseradish or a decent steak sauce. The broiled cheese bread was a disaster. It had what looked like a 1/2 inch thick layer of mayo with a light parmesan cheese topping and after one bite it became an orphan. On the plus side, the portions were very generous. On the minus, the service was uneven, better understanding of food presentation and of what is being served would help move this restaurant into the 5 star position.
Good lunchtime seafood. I stopped by for lunch and I had to wait a minute before someone noticed me standing there, but after I was seated the service was top notch. For an appetizer I had fried calamari, which was great. I also ordered clam chowder as a 2nd appetizer. The clam chowder was non-traditional, but it was still good. My main meal was fish and chips, and the though the fish portion seemed small, it was awesome. The fries were average, and I found myself wishing I had order fish and FISH instead of fish and chips because the fish was so good. The prices were fine and the ambience of the restaurant was good.
Hawgs seafood. The absolute BEST seafood in the Bay Area. Where else can you get lobster for $26.00??? It's fabulous! The oysters are delicious...never a bad one, the salmon is out of this world. My husband and I took his father there (who has travled all around the world and is very picky) he had to call the cook over to tell him that it's the BEST he's ever had. Fully recommend..you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu!
Delicious and Friendly.
At the recommendation of a colleague we tried Hawgs and we were extremely pleased.
As we sat at the bar diners on either side of us shared advice on what to order, a lady next to my husband even offered us a taste of her clam chowder and it was fabulous; they make a cross between a Manhattan and Boston chowder and it was absolutely outstanding. I had Ahi Ahi and it was cooked just as I asked for it, fresh and delicious.
My husband had Fish and Chips, it was cooked just right and came with 3 wonderful sauces. We were served quickly and with a smile. The conversation with other people and the owner/bar tender added to the fun. We will definitely return.
Fabulous!!. Highly recommended. The food was delicious, ambiance great, service excellent. Parking is free too.
Editorial Review. Seafood restaurant with menu ranging from steamed clams and prawns to steak and rack of lamb; full bar available.
Great Place for Lunch. Hawgs is a great place for lunch with a co-worker, or a casual dinner before an evening out. Seafood is fresh, but the service is only okay. It does tend to get crowded, so reservations are probably best.
Great Place. Great atmosphere. Casual and classy, a fun place to dine. fast service too.
WONDERFUL. Great place! Spacious bright lively, feel-good atmosphere. Good server! Superb appetizer crab stuffed mushroom with cheese! Great oysters! Cajun seafood pasta, great! Will definitely be back. Good location near rep, camera 3, lots of parking close by.
