Should be renamed "Ridiculous".
We left Parcel 104 hungry, frustrated and $500 lighter...
The empty restaurant (5 tables) at 7:30 pm on a Saturday night should have been our first clue.
I ordered the chef tastings ($68) at our waiter's suggestion that we would get a sampling of the menu and plenty of food, hahahah.
The first course was a dime-sized sample of moosemeat and salsa--it had great flavor.
Truffle risotto was also excellent flavor, service was excellent-as it should be the server had 2 tables, but that is were the compliments end. It literally took 30 min. to bring each course. The entree course was a quarter-sized piece of chewy KOBE beef....
by the time they brought the cheese and fruit course-I started laughing. 2 almonds, 2 slices of madarin oranges and a dime-sized piece of brie. It was truly ridiculous.
Surprise.
Who would've thought they could find this in a hotel? First of all, the decor is casually elegant, which was nice. Although the restaurant was full, it still maintained a quiet, intimate atmosphere.
The offerings were seasonal, and the ingredients were all organic. A great alternative to dining in downtown San Jose!
Uninspired, but good presentation.
Parcel 104 is an elegant venue with lots to offer. Celebrity chef status impresses, and the ambiance is cordial, yet comfortable. I find the savory dishes (we were a party of 4) uninspired, except for the tilefish with golden caviar, which was almost too busy, but still delicious and artfully done. Dessert was the best part of the meal, very creative. Portions were perfectly sized, and well-prepared.
Service detracted significantly from the meal. We waited up to 20-30 minutes between courses, and our server switched on us mid-meal. The chef personally handled the food restrictions of one of our party members (due to severe food allergies) extremely accommodatingly, but the dessert chef missed a minor detail and an allergic reaction happened anyway. All in all, it was a bittersweet experience but I would think about going back.
Surprisingly Mediocre.
Parcel 104 has all the potential of being a great restaurant. A beautiful room, inventive menu, nice wine list. But our meal on a relatively slow Tuesday evening was marred by absolutely inattentive service, a steak so tough that a guest needed help to not choke, duck that was very tough and so gamey that the sauce couldn't hide the taste.
Salads were fine. The wine list is nice but over-priced. The desserts were nothing spectacular.
All in all, a good place for a business dinner but I wouldn't recommend for a fine dining experience.
A Wonderful Dinner. I am so glad we chose this place for our anniversary. We had a wonderful dinner. The scallops appetizer is the best! Every dish was so well balanced in flavor and artfully presented - I wish they had a tasting menu. If you have not dined here, you are missing out.
