Editorial Review for Cypress Hotel – by Jim Harrington

The Scene
Decidedly different from Silicon Valley standards, this chic nine-story hotel attracts business travelers during the week and couples looking for a local romantic getaway on weekends. The feel is not unlike that of a fancy bed-and-breakfast or an exclusive resort in some trendy destination spot. Still, it's only a 20-minute drive to most of Silicon Valley's high-tech centers and major tourist attractions.

The Details
Opened in 2002, this immaculate hotel is highlighted by a cozy lobby area with red velvet couches, a gas fireplace and views of a large outdoor fountain. The state-of-the-art fitness center features cardio machines equipped with individual remote-controlled televisions. Wireless Internet access is available on the hotel's first floor. The spacious rooms reflect the safari motif with a colorful array of leopard and zebra prints on the beds, floors and walls. The posh rooms each include high-speed Internet access, large work desk with ergonomic chair and leopard-print bathrobes.

Insider Tips

Look Good

Could that be Eric Clapton sitting next to you in the lobby? It's possible, given that many performers at the nearby Shoreline Amphitheatre stay at this hotel.

Know Before You Go

A great place to pamper your pup, this hotel offers in-room food and water bowls, chew toys, cozy beds and keepsake dog tags.

I have been reviewing hotels to host a personal event and the Cypress seemed like the spot to go to. Well trying to get anyone from catering/events to speak with you is a nightmare! I went with another hotel instead and we had a great time. I just found out that a friend's company tried to arrange an event there and the company rep was stood up when she went for her scheduled appointment. Obvously the Cypress is not intersted in hosting events!

As soon as we walked in, the enjoyment began. The staff was pleasant and welcoming. We enjoyed the complimentary wine served in the lounge with other guests. Our room was nice and the bed very comfortable. Their restaurant is fabulous. There is not one thing I could complain about. We had a great relaxing weekend.

Pros: Hotel is great and close to everything
