The Scene – It's a sleeker, more sophisticated space than the first two outposts of this beloved Bay Area mini-chain. Befitting its Santana Row locale, the glamorous space is all glitz--sleek Balinese furniture and antique gongs are juxtaposed with industrial stainless steel and lots of hard surfaces. The crowd is suitably posh, multicultural and youthful. – – The Food – Back in 1987, the first Straits Cafe introduced San Franciscans to cuisine that was an exotic coalescing of flavors from China, Malaysia, India and Indonesia. This menu offers many of the original…

- When to Go:
- South Bay DJs spin house music on Friday and Saturday nights, but on Thursdays from 9pm to midnight, it's live jazz.
Great for Large Parties
by Kingrich at Citysearch
Yea, this place is pretty cool, great for large parties, they really do rock. Food comes out at the same time, always hot and fresh. Management does a great job with shaping the menu to fit a budget, then produces custom menu for the party. At night it does turn into a vegas club scene, in the front, Very cool if it is your thing.
Good but not great..

Food isn't bad but there are better places in Santana Row.
There is a lot of hype about Straights; truth is it's OK.
There is ALWAYS a looong wait; regardless if they're busy or not.
Prices are pretty steep and portions are pretty small..
- Pros: Good Mojitos
- Cons: Small Portions; Long Wait; High Prices
Fabulous Food / Fun Experience
by mambo5678 at Citysearch
The only down I can think of is dining at Straits with just one other person, for two people cannot possibly order enough dishes: the more you get to taste, the better the experience.
There were six of us, so we tried, seriously, 12 different dishes, all fabulous!
I wanted more of the Black Pepper Lobster and garlic noodles -- they were great!
- Cons: We were there to eat; why waste a good dining experience hoping to find a date?
average and overpriced food
by cbtran04 at Citysearch
The food was okay I've had better at other pan Asian restaurants. The one thing that I really enjoy is that the live music is great, but very loud. I was barely able to hear the person next to me.
- Pros: live music, full bar
- Cons: very loud, pricey
Overpriced & Nasty
by dakara930 at Citysearch
The food here is horrible and terribly overpriced, like a lot of the reviews say. I came here for lunch with 4 friends and all of us walked out with a stomach ache. The food was barely edible, there were pounds of sugar in a lot of the food (even the ahi tuna tartar!!). Their "curry" sauces were bland and flavorless. Curry should be fragrant & flavorful. Do NOT even visit this place!!!
- Pros: Getting seated right away
- Cons: Unfortunately, there was a reason for that!!!! Nasty Food!!!!!!!
