Johnny is the best.
I used to go to Johnny say from 1998 to 2001 - before he had his own place and occassionally (after I moved to Oregon) to 5 Color Cowboy. He is hands down one of the best stylist I have ever had. Not only did my hair look fantastic but I also enjoyed talking with him , he's a great guy. One year he even helped me hide the fact I was growing my hair out for a Halloween costume (Elvis, had a full popm and grew in a beard that I trimmed to muttons). He is the best.
In the years since I have had DOZENS of stylists and only found one which paled in comparison but at least didn't make me look like a window licker. I long for the day the Portland and now Austin have someone that could cut my hair 1/2 as good as Johnny.
Poor customer service and lack of hair cutting skills. Poor customer service. The stylist said she was going to "texturize" my hair. I don't know if the average person knows what "texturizing" is. Little did i know it was thinning my hair after she started! She didn't even bother to explain. I had asked her if she could straighten my hair, and she refused. If i'm paying over $60 for a hair cut , they better straighten my hair. Apparently she had the time to diffuse my hair for 20 minutes, and couldn't use that time plus an extra 10 mins to straighten. She's not talktative. She does not know how to deal with curly hair, when I heard she did. I would NEVER go here again. I'm so upset she thinned my hair!! Not to mention she asked me to slouch down in the chair for her convenience to diffuse my hair. Save your money, and go to a different salon!
Good customer service. I enjoyed my experience at 5 color cowboy. I have had a friend of mine cut my hair for the last 30 years and she no longer can cut my hair. due to tennis elbow. Also I was tired of the same old hair style I have had, either short or a little longer with a wave in the front. Very old hair style. I wanted something up to date and easy to care for. I asked my 31 year old daughter-in-law where she went and who she would suggest. She sent me to the Cowboys! I enjoyed the atmostphere very much. It projected what type of styling I was interested in. My styles suggested cutting it short, but I think she wanted to go slow. I told her I have had it very short due to chemo twice so I was not afraid to cut it really short . Once we got past that and that I wanted something upbeat and trendy; I got a great cut and she showed me how to achieve my new style at home. My husband loves it and so do I. I will be going back to the Cowboy from now on.
Editorial Review. Salon provides cuts, stling, up do's, full color, individual streaks, color correction, perms and conditioning treatments.
Awesome people and service!. I work down the street from 5 Color Cowboy and I have gotten to know some of the stylist and the manager, Johnny, who was very kind and personally went out of his way to set up an appointment for me with one of his stylist, Christina. She called me and confirmed our appointment, and when I showed up she offered my friends and I a beverage, then immediately went to work. She was extremely friendly and asked relevent questions about my hair. I let her know I had a problem with my scalp due to my psoriasis so she offered a brand new product that would be benefical to my situation. She then offered to set up another appointment to test it (FOR FREE) and see whether I would like it or not. After washing my hair we discussed the terrible tragedy that was my last hair cut and how I ended up with a female mullet. Although I personally thought there wasn't much hope for my hair, she offered a variety of potential possiblities. I told her that she definitely had my trust and that she was free to attempt anything that could be considered 'trendy.' Throughout my time there she was very personable and I truley felt like I was getting to know this woman as my future permanent stylist and friend. Never did I experience any hostility or animosity, nor did my friends whilst we were there. After she completed the haircut, she styled it and went over the ways I could achieve the same look at home. Sufficient to say I will definitely be returning with my girlfriends because we trust not only Christina but the other stylist because they obviously know what they're doing.
Pretentious staff, pricey, and completely dissapointed. A friend of mine recommended this salon and so I made an appointment for a basic one color tint. I called to get an estimate and the receptionist said it would be $50-75 for a color and style. I arrived at the salon and was finally acknowledged 10 minutes later. The stylist spoke to quickly and wasn't paying attention (looking around and talking to stylist next to him) when I was explaining what I wanted. The assistant who applied my color and shampoo'd me was friendly and was the first person to ask if I'd like a beverage. Once I got back to the stylist's chair he suggested I wear my hair wavy since I walked in with it straightened. All he did is put this sticky, smelly product and twisted it into dreadlocks and put me under the hi-tech dryer which didn't dry my hair as water was still dripping walking out the door. The assistant infomed me that I was done. The stylist didn't even check on me nor did he walk me to the reception desk. When it was time to pay my total was $100!!! I wrote a check to the order of the salon name and not the stylist (which I confirmed with the receptionist). I was so happy to be out of there... A week later I got a call from my bank calling to validate the check because the stylist had crossed out the salon name and put his own and forged my initials. The proper way to handle this situation was for him to call and ask for either an alternate method or have me send another check. Not only did I deny the bank accepting the check but I also gave him an ear full of what I though about him and his staff!
Blair is great!. I have been going to Blair for the past year and she absolutely great.... The color & cut always turn out to be what I want and she is a wonderful person to talk to. The atmosphere of 5 Color Cowboys is trendy & artsy.. definitely a place to check out.
