Service needs improvement, but the food is good.. I've been here a few times and the food is consistently good, but the service is hit or miss. Usually, a miss. It doesn't make a difference if it's crowded or not. It has the potential to be a great place if they could just improve upon their service. If you appreciate good flavored coffee, they have it, but the cup is small and be prepared to wait, wait, and wait for a refill---a deterrent if you're out for weekend brunch.
Awesome 5*****.
I had been to Consuelo Mexican Bistro couple of times - mainly for brunch/lunch.
The food is real good. The menu is pretty good ... I normally don't prefer Mexican food.
But I love this place.
Best Chile Relleno.
I never liked Mexican food before. I earn miles on certain restaurant that participates and this one does. We tried it one day, and I acquired a taste for Mexican food.
Also tried: chicken mole, carnitas, lamb and lately the newest menu, scallop. It was cooked to perfection just a little too salty (but I am on a no salt diet at home).
not recommend this place to my worst enemy!!!. Went for breakfast/brunch .What a bomb! Horrible!!!! Service stinks you couldn't get the waiters attention if your life was dependent on it...food was cold and unappetizing...my wife practically cried when her small portion of food arrived...had to go to chilis restaurant to eat something( i never thought I would say this but chilis tasted divine at this moment!!) Support your local mexican taqueria "bistro". I wouldn't go back here if you offered me a free meal...stay away..what a dissapointment!!!
Overpriced and under good.
This was my second visit to Consuelo. We visited because we wanted tapas, but didn't want to brave the rainy day, rush hour traffic to Mountain View for Cascal. That was a big mistake.
I wasn't impressed with Consuelo on my first visit, but my second one was even less impressive. The food was heavy handed and overly dense/greasy/fatty. There was no finess or depth to the dishes. The sangria we got was overly sweet and didn't have any fresh fruit in it. To top it off, the prices are outrageous in terms of both quality and quantity. That was my last visit to Consuelo.
Great New Mexican Option. This restaurant was a welcome addition to Santana row among the Italian and American offerings. My husband and I went there for brunch on Sunday. The Bloody Mary's there are PERFECT. I had a Mexican version of Eggs Benedict; my husband had some type of Portebello mushroom and cheese dish. Both were excellent. We dined on the back patio, which was sunny and warm. However, we wanted to sit in the front and were informed that the seats were taken (although empty!) Service is often unprofessional and friendly; the hostesses ignore you when they see you waiting for a table. Servers act like they'd rather be somewhere else.
Such a disappointment. True Mexican or not, this place has a lot to be desired. I read several good reviews of this place so I talked a couple friends into going this past week. The menu looked very interesting, everything is Tapas style but a bit on the high $$ side. I figured the portions would make up for it. After ordering our appetizers and food, we realized what a rip off the place was. The margaritas were $10 bucks each for slightly above well quality tequila, the food portions were extremely smallI had a tiny chilli relleno with a side of rice for $15. All 3 of us were pretty disappointed with the value/quality which worked out to around $45 per person. The only thing that saved the meal were the complimentary tortillas that we kept re-ordering in order to feel like we had a satisfying meal.
Horrible food and service.. The only thing I liked at this restaurant was the booth I got to sit in. Other than that, our waiter seemed rushed and indifferent towards us. He did not explain the menu or check up on us during our meal. The meat we ordered was plain and just not good. The tortillas and guacamole were ok, but I don't think it is difficult to mess those up. I do not recommend this place at all!!!
good food; expensive drinks. I stick to my favorites, and here, it is the 'fresh fish' with green beans and truffle sauce. The fish is always perfect and I 'clean' the sauce off my plate. The mole chicken is too sweet, needs more flavor/spices. Improved greatly with salt. The guacamole is delicious, but not a value. The sangria is delicious - there were sweet mango pieces in it; but they added ICE! which watered it down. Ask for no ice.
Save Your Money!. Do you like 10 dollar margaritas? Then this is the place for you! As for the food, my meat was fatty, dried out and rubbery. The salad was big and the lettuce was fresh but it lacked flavor as the dressing was nothing but an oil coating on the leaves. The rice was bone dry. The dipping sauces for the tortillas were pretty good though. Sat outside and were told we could not sit in the front, we had to sit on the side even though tables were available, THIS should have been a clue! The service is shoddy, when dissatisfied the waitress was NO Help!! I had to call the manager. Want a good dinner and a pleasant evening out, LOOK ELSEWHERE.
