Editorial Review for The Blank Club – by Tara de Lis
In Short
More like a red room than a blank canvas, this alt rock club is decked out in all things crimson, with the exception of the faux religious candles along the bar and the hanging disco ball. Multiple acts take the stage every night--everything from local punk upstarts doing agro Dramarama covers to Russian theme band the Red Elvises. An alternative to downtown dance clubs, it attracts Silicon Valley hipsters and local college students.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe club is located on Almaden Avenue, not Almaden Boulevard--make sure you don't confuse the two.

I went to the blank club to hear some live punk bands that were playing that night. The club is tiny, has very very little seating and the stage is equally small. The drinks are overpriced, like at any club, but badly made. I had a tequila sunrise and had to leave it at the bar it was so bad. The bartenders were not friendly at all and seemed overworked. The sound in the place is so bad the bands sound like you might as well be in a garage listening to some high school band. Its disappointing to someone like myself, who is only a casual punk rock fan, it seems to cater only to the die hard punk rockers out there. So if you're just trying to get a taste for the scene, I don't recommend this place at all.
Pros: Cool underground bands
Cons: Everything Else

The Blank Club is bare bones but clean. The drinks are honest. The bartenders are knowledgable. There aren't many chairs. It is all about the live music for me. The closest comparable spot is the Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco. They book real punk rock bands and the sound is decent. The stage is only 2 feet high so you can see the band sweat. The crowd is ok. The security is ok. I've seen some of the best shows of my life here. Jonathan Richman, Slackers, Mad Caddies, The_Queers, West Bound Train, Monkey, Phenomenauts, Aggrolites, Marky Ramone, Agent Orange, Dick_Dale, Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly, etc.
