Exceeded my expectations, Paragon is a place to definitely try!. I went here for a friend's birthday dinner. I was pleasantly surprised by the staff's hospitality. The environment is very chic/elegant. I had the hanger steak chef's special which I would recommend to anyone ($20). The appetizer oysters were insanely small and they did not react to the lemon ($10, a sign of freshness: the oyster will slightly cringe if it's really fresh). From my company's reaction, I would recommend the calamari, mahi mahi, ribs, and the pork loins. Get sides if you feel really hungry. The special drinks menu was weak on the alcohol side, but they do have a nice selection of vodkas to choose from. I would swing by this place again if I was planning a meal around San Jose's renovated downtown. Public parking structures are free after 6pm on 2nd and 3rd.

upscale relaxed. Good, hearty fare. Hip lounge/bar scene. Decor is urban-sophisticated without being pretentious. Friendly, professional service. Highly recommended!

User review by usfolks. I was just at the Paragon in San francisco so i had to come check out this local! My favorite part was the atmosphere. I love the comfy chairs!!!!! We sat in the bar and had some cocktails before our reservation, we were in no rush to move. I had a pomegranite martini, it rocked! The best thing at the table was the steak, some wild mushroom gratin and asparagus, LOVED IT! My appetizer was good but I tried my friends duck confit salad and I was blown away, it's not something I would have normally gotten on my own but I'm glad he did! I'm hooked. I had no room for dessert but was told by my friends that the bread pudding was amazing! The service was great I loved the food and the atmosphere was so soothing and funky. Pleasantly surprised by everything! I will definately be back!

User review by marcyw1. I run a dining club and am always looking for great places...this was not one of them. Though the setting is very swank and sexy, there is nothing else nice I can really say. The food was bland to bad, more than half of the people didn't feel it was worth the calories to eat...and they were men! The service was spotty and the hostess wasn't the brightest bulb. We were the only people on the patio, except for some of the staff that were smoking, so the atmosphere was lacking. I wouldn't go back.

Average, average, average.... Still in search of GREAT dining in the South Bay.

This place has potential to be fantastic due to the location, ambiance, and service.

But food was so AVERAGE. What a waste!

Nice casual dining enviornment with great food.. I recently took my girlfriend to the restaurant and overall we had a wonderful experience. They have a separate lounge area which makes it a nice spot for dinner or just drinks. It was Friday night and they had a live Jazz band. The wait staff was extremely attentive and we felt well taken care of. Their fried calamari appetizer was overflowing and some of the best fried calamari that I have tasted. I would not recommend the drinks from the specialty menu as they were rather weak. I had the pancetta wrapped monkfish and she had the sea bass. The food was great and neither of us had any complaints. Overall this is a very nice restaurant with a great atmosphere and great food. I highly recommend Paragon!!

Great New Place to Dine!. The patio looks like a great place to dine or hang out during the summer. The inside is very chic- dim lighting, trendy crowd. In the evenings, there's live jazz, which is a nice touch. Food was good- my husband and I both had seafood entrees. He had sea bass, and I had salmon. Both were very good. Be sure to order your side entrees- the vegetables that come with entrees are more of a garnish. Dessert was great- I can't remember the name of what we had, but it had apples in it with a crusted top. Service was good. When we wanted to switch tables because of a draft, unfortunately, we couldn't switch, but they did turn up the heat for us and the manager came over to check and see that we were happy. Overall, a great find!

Chic hotel bistro attracts a vibrant, mixed crowd with rustic American cuisine.. In Short
Located inside the plush Montgomery Hotel, this restaurant is popular for business lunches and pre-theater dining. Thirteen-foot-high ceilings create an expansive feeling, while booths, zinc-topped wood tables and an earth-toned color scheme add warmth. The cuisine updates classic American fare with such entrees as the maple-glazed pork loin chop, butternut squash ravioli and pancetta-wrapped monkfish. Desserts include the warm berry cobbler--mixed fresh berries and brown-butter biscuits topped with whipped cream.
