Editorial Review for Bodie State Historic Park – by Emily Zietlow

In Short
William Bodey discovered gold near this ghost town in 1859. By 1880, the town's population grew to 10,000 and it had become a "Sin City" on the frontier, bursting with gambling halls, brothels, opium dens and saloons. Only 5 percent of those original buildings remain, including a bank vault, jail, saw mill, stamp mill, saloon, Methodist church and numerous residences. The park rangers offer several daily tours of the stamp mill.
