A modern, stylish kosher restaurant with outside seating.. The Bay Area isn't New York, but we could certainly stand to gain a few more kosher restaurants here. So thought Chaim Davids, the East Coast–trained chef-owner of Mountain View's Kitchen Table restaurant. And judging by the steady flow of table traffic, diners have been waiting. The restaurant is alight with dazzling crystal chandeliers, while its light blue-green walls are adorned in one-of-a-kind antique picture frames. Instead of typical white tablecloths, Kitchen Table opted instead for cream-colored ones, which speak to its upscale—but not stuffy—approach to kosher cuisine. Though the $26 skillet-roasted duck breast reminds us that Kitchen Table isn't a deli, they do make a perfect pastrami sandwich with homemade mustard and meats that are smoked in-house. Davids even makes a briny lamb bacon that will convince you you've broken kosher. Though rest assured, the Kitchen Table is so strict about observing Jewish law that it's closed during most restaurants' busiest night of the week: Shabbos.
