The Scene
Each of the locations of this growing empire is a casual spot that's just right for the whole family. Southwestern accents give diners plenty to look at, and many of the restaurants feature outdoor patios.
The Food
Peninsula natives John Berwald and John Carroll made a point of getting to know Texas barbecue before opening their first Armadillo Willy's in Cupertino in 1983. It shows in their baby back pork ribs and St. Louis cut spareribs (order hot sauce on everything; the mild is strictly for wimps). Ribs are thick-cut and smoky, glazed with sauce and served with a choice of sides. Beans and corn muffins are great complements, but the coleslaw studded with peanuts is merely peculiar.

Who does not love Armadillo Willy's? Just the smell alone makes my mouth water. I love their breakfast burrito, it is filled with brisket, beans and fries.

I went here for a team dinner and they were really accommodating. They were surprisingly fast at getting all of our food to the table despite having to serve all 20 of us

Located at the corner of San Antonio and El Camino on the Los Altos/Mountain View board. Unlike the rest of the Armadillo Willys restaurants it was a sit-down served by a waiter set-up (rather get in a line to order and then pick it up when it was ready). They had really good service and the food was even better than the general chains. UNFORTUNATELY, they changed their format to other stores and it has never been the same again. The restaurant seems dead with no energy previously seen and the food has declined substantially. We now would rather drive farther to go to the other resaurants to get the great ribs, hot links, beans, etc. than be disappointed by this Armadillo Willys. PROS: CONS: Parking can be tough, change of format, declining food
