Downtown Los Altos sushi den offers fresh fish, unique rolls and seasonal specialties..
The Scene
A well-heeled Silicon Valley lunch crowd fills the sushi bar and main room, which is a study in light-wood accents and features abundant tables laid out in linear zen-like fashion. Two private tatami rooms are popular with the more festive crowd, designed with sunken floors for shoeless dining. Friendly servers communicate fresh fish suggestions and sake list knowledge, and routinely pop by to check in.
The Food
Cooked selections vie with specialty rolls for attention. For appetizers, the tender beef and crunchy asparagus roll whets the appetite. The dragon roll is a clever food-art concoction, dusted with cornflakes, affixed with chewy octopus for eyes, anchored by shrimp tempura for a tail and then stuffed with fresh eel and avocado. Specific fish selections based on daily quality--for instance, the lightly seared white tuna--are preferable to assorted sashimi plates.
