Healthy Food, Reasonable Prices, Falls Short of Delicious.
This place has been around for at least 15 years and has changed management at least a couple of times. The food is healthy and the prices are reasonable but most items unfortunately fall far short of delicious. The best way I can think of describing it is like slop on your plate. You shovel it down your throat, you're no longer hungry and you at least feel good that what you've eaten is healthy and vegetarian. If you're looking for an all-vegi place in the area, as far as I know, it's the only game in town. Maybe the food will improve as time goes by. I hope so.
Best Vegetarian in Mountain View, Fake Meat!.
Returning to the Bay Area this winter to see friends and family, the first place I visited for a meal was Garden Fresh. Over the last few years, it's been a really nice treat for my wife and I, but since the restaurant went under new management late this year, the food has reached new heights. While the ambiance falls short on every scale, the food is what I consider the best vegetarian in the bay area. If you're into "fake meats", this place does wonders. Some of my favorites include the Vegetarian Pork Chop and General Tso's Chicken. Served with a complimentary corn chowder soup and brown rice, it's quite tasty and filling. I consider this one of the bay area's secret gems, and urge anyone who is into good food and willing to share in a vegetarian meal to visit this place. Note, if you're not into fake meats, I don't really recommend this place, as its speciality is this. Enjoy!
Best in Class.
There are a lot of Asian vegi restaurants in the Bay Area Garden Fresh is the best. This little strip mall restaurant is hard to find next to Baskin Robins, but it is well worth it. The staff is very friendly and you can a complimentary bowl of "Corn Chowder" with every order. It is an excellent tofo and yellow corn soup that is outstanding. My Wife often just gets a big bowl for her meal. Out other favorites are the Lettuce Wraps, the Sweet and Sour Pork, and the Fried Rice. The restaurant is small (less than 25 seats) and fairly popular so you might have to wait a bit, but it is well worth it. You can also sit at the bar which is never full.
To sum up: Garden Fresh has, hands down, the best Asian vegi food in the bay.
Were only able to eat there twice on our short trip to the area...tried Sweet & Sour Veg Pork, Orange Steak, Curried Chicken, Spinach Won Ton Soup, and Veggie Ham w/veggies and Garlic Sauce. Curried Chicken and Won Ton Soup were WAY too salty...chicken was some kind of reconstituted gluten and was spongy and watery when chewed. The other stuff was fantastic, really delicious. The staff is quirky, but friendly and a delight. When we arrived just as it opened, they told us they were making soup and couldn't start our orders immediately. Next thing we knew, they'd brought out soup, "on the house" for while we waited. Not sure what it was, but had tofu, corn, carrots, and peas and was unique and delicious. Can't wait to return on another visit.
