Fantastic Afghan Cuisine!. Kabul Afghan Cuisine has a fairly standard location in a strip mall, and a generic restaraunt-ish interior. And that is where all that is bland, boring and generic ends. Kabul offers great afhgani food at reasonable prices. There's a wide variety of dishes - all of which are tasty. Particular favorites of ours are the mantu and kadu. Yum! The servers are courteous and check in with us frequently - but not intrusively.
Best Afghan Food, Best Service, based on our consistent 15 years experience!.
Our family has had great experience at Kabul Afghan Restaurant in Sunnyvale California.
The food is healthy and tasty. The service is superb, professional, and friendly.
The restaurant is located very close to Sunnyvale Library on El Camino Real. Having lived in Afghanistan for quite some time, we know the authentic Afghan food when we see it, (or taste it.) We have tried many dishes. The Kabob Gousefand and the meal with lots of Sabzi Chellow, or any of the other delicacies are prepared to perfection. They always give a fresh green salad with their special salad dressing. With complete meals, you get a slice of Barbary Bread that is very tasty and fresh baked.
As a drink, you can have all the usual ones in addition to the Dough, which yogurt, water and tiny pieces of graded cucumbers. This is a real Persian/Afghani specialty. In this restaurant it is superbly done. They also put some dried tasty vegetable powder on the top that gives this a very unique taste.
We usually ask for the Kadoo (Baked Pumpkin) as an appetizer, it is out of this world.
They also have a well stocked wine bar.
Ask for Baklava and/or freshly brewed hot tea for desert. Another desert item, the "Elephant Ear" is quite big and tasty as well.
We strongly recommend this restaurant!
WE usually did not make reservation and seating was usually without wait.
Amazing!!. It was my first visit and I didn't know the menu, a friend met me and ordered ahead of time, we had about 6 different things!! The food was to die for!! the chicken kabob was absolutely amazing I couldn't get enough! the spicy green sauce and yogurt best flavor ever!!!!! and the eggplant with beef and yogurt amazing too!! I just had it today for lunch and I can't wait to get back!!! it is a must try!!!
Avoid this place, if you are into Afghani authantic food and like good service.
It was one of my worst experiences with Afghani food. The place is very well decorated, but to tell you the truth i do not go to a restaurant for decoration. Usually around SF and surrounding cities, i have always had the opportunity to experience the great Afghan host hospitality in the Afghani restaurants. I have to say that i am very disappoited at the service and the quality of food that they served.
There was an older lady that was very rude and did not even say any greeting and not even a person stopped by to check and refill the drink and ask if i needed anything, i would expect this if they are busy, but they were not.
I will not go back and would not refer anyone to this location.
Big yummy portions. This is a great place to experience fabulous Afghan cuisine!! It has a great atmosphere for a small or large group. If you don't make reservations, expect a bit of a wait but it is worth it!! We have never been disappointed. I am not a big fan of lamb but they managed to make an appetizer with lamb that I really enjoyed! Every chicken dish is worth trying and the amount of food you get for the price is amazing!!
Their pumpkinis to die for.
I've been going to this restaurant for several years, and the quality is alwasy consistently very good. The staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. Their food -- everything I've tried, which is most of their menu by now -- is great. Atmosphere is special. Prices are a little higher than many restaurants, but not at all outrageous. I take international business visitors to this place.
It is a SIN to go there and not try their wonderful pumpkin.
Excellent Afghan Cuisine. I went to Kabul last week and enjoyed a wonderful meal. We started off with the mantu dumplings which were filled with ground lamb and topped off with a heavy curry, yogurt, and mint sauce. I found this dish to be decent; however, the curry was too thick to enjoy the taste of the meat. Then, I tried a dish which contained chicken cooked in a tomato sauce served with pallaw. I found the dish to be too bland. It went well with chutney. I also tried the chicken and lamb kabobs. They were exquisite. They are served with delicious Afghan bread and pallaw. I highly reccomend selecting the combination kabob of lamb and chicken. Kabul is also good for get-togethers in that it has a peaceful ambience, great service, and enough table space. I would reccomend making reservations.
Amazing food and atmosphere!.
This is probably the best middle-eastern restaurant in the Bay Area. The atmosphere is amazing, and the food! Ahhh! Try Mater Challow or Bandenjan Challow - or, if you're more conservative, Combination Kabob. You've never had anything like that before! In the last two years, it hasn't been a week when I haven't been to this place - it is absolutely the best.
Great for corporate events!
P.S. Make reservations for even a 2 person lunch - wait time can be as high as 40 minutes. It's popular :-)
