Average food and plenty of excuses – Went for Mother's Day because my mother had always been curious about it. I had been there before with a large group so I knew what to expect...food on par with what you can get in the frozen food section of your grocery store, but a fun atmosphere and low prices. They were busy, but not overly so. After having a calamari appetizer and salad, then the excuses started. Oh, sorry. We have a "large party downstairs" so your dinner is going to be delayed. Uhhh, I thought you specialized in large parties, and why would their party delay our order? After about a half hour our food finally arrived. In the meantime my mother was getting so hungry that she ordered a small salad, which came after the main course had already arrived. No problem. A good time was had by all. My bro-in-law put the check on his Amex Platinum card, signed for it and we all left. Suddenly our waiter came running out yelling for all to hear, "Your credit card was declined, your credit card was declined." Another mystery. If the credit card was declined, how did he return with the slip for him to sign that said "Pre-Authorized". Then the manager came out and told us we had to put it on another credit card with some circular explanation on credit card systems which it turns out, my wife who works for Visa said was completely wrong (but was not present during this discussion). What it boiled down to, although they would not admit it, was someone in their wait staff had screwed up during the transaction. After waiting for half an hour for her to straighten it out, she offered no apology. The only one who felt bad about it was the bartender who had witnessed the entire dialogue and tried to offer us some discount coupons for a future visit. He is the one who should be running that place, not someone who care one iota about a good customer experience.
Get cozy with friends and family and enjoy an Italian feast at this loved-by-locals restaurant. – In Short
Homesick for your mother's Italian cooking? Grab your appetite and head to this restaurant, where the friendly wait staff will serve up portions of Colosseum-esque proportions, like spaghetti and meatballs loaded with savory tomato sauce and lots of pungent garlic. Dishes center on Southern Italian immigrant fare, and are meant to be shared family-style with a large goblet of wine-to enhance the taste, of course. The ornate décor with walls covered in vintage photos evokes a warm homey feel that welcomes customers to dine among the other families and loyal customers. Buon Appetito!
Great Service, friendly environment, loved it – We went there for a birthday party for my daughter. The server was extremely friendly and attentive. Food was delish especially the Caesar Salad and we loved our Chicken dish. Her party ordered the largest dessert which served the entire party. Fun experience with outstanding service.
We went to Buca in Oakridge.
Avoid at all costs. – To all who may be thinking of planning a great night out for the family or friends. I must warn you about this awful place. I'm not saying that all Buca di beppo's are bad, because I have been to other that were fabulous and along with the great meal the restauants are run by amazing managers. Although for some reason when I planned a dinner event at this location the service was ridiculously rude and the rudiest employee of them all was the general manager Eddy.BIG SHOCK. After the horrific time of being treated like unvalued guest the food was less then perfect, coming out cold and unappealing. My recommendation to those who are thinking of going to this restaurant pick another place. and for anyone working at Buca reading this I will never bring my business there again. Im rating this restaurant a 0 for their poor service and horrible managment, thanks for the awful time Eddy.
Great place for large groups! – Buca is always a great place to go, but best for large parties. The portions are huge and one entree can feed 6 people. The service at Buca is fast and friendly. The ambience at Buca is festive and fun. I eat at Buca all the time, but I recently went brought a large group there for part of a bachelorette party weekend, they were helpful in selecting the menu and had the whole room acknowledge the bride-to-be in our party.
great food – Went into the Palo Alto location and what an amazing sight. you walk right into the kitchen. our food was wonderful. the service was great what an amazing time we had
As expected – The food was as expected - adequate and plentiful.
Well lit and noisy.
Not worth the wait – Two experiences here, and I only got to eat once. First experience was, well, wait about 45 minutes, got a table with our party of 6, the place was very noisy and not overly clean inside (crud on the floor), and the waiter basically *told* us what to order. It arrived. The only thing positive I can
say about the food was that there was a whole lot of it. Otherwise it was no better than Denny's quality. And it was stuff that any idiot can make at home.
Second experience was with a group of 12. They didn't honor our
reservation, apparently having overcommitted, and offered, after a
wait, to seat *some* of us (at a 6-top), with the others promised a
table "soon". That led to a public and unpleasant disputation involving
several of us and the management. We went to a nearby Indian place
and ate well.
fun dinner with your friends – I admit, it's not the most romantic and nice place to eat. Food is good but not excellent. However, it's a great place to go out to dinner with bunch of friends. We all complain about how we have to place to eat with many people, well here it is. The waiters are fun and friendly and you'll have a great time with your friends. Portion in amazing and good place for what they give you. Tiramissue is excellent.
What is all the hype about? – Yes portions are big and prices are a value sized, but quality is mediocre. You get what you pay for. If you want to treat 10 people and spend $20 per head and have everyone full this is the place. The Bay Area Costco of Italian food. Much too loud in here, we could not carry on a normal conversation without shouting.
But for quality Italian food Il Fornaio, Bella Mia or Il Postale are all better choices. The price per head will be higher but the quality is much better.
