This 62-room hotel is a simple stucco building with pleasant European touches like wrought-iron balconies, a Mediterranean-style courtyard, and vibrant fuschia bougainvillea. Aveda bath products, Peet's coffee, Bose CD radios, faxes, printers and high-speed Internet access add valuable convenience and brand-name stature to each and every room. Like the accommodations, conference rooms are both high-tech and elegant with wireless Internet access and private garden terraces.
The Details
Rooms are colorful and cheery with a skillful blend of modern and country design. Bright pink and mint checkered fabrics spice up the pale green carpet, while tailored pastel fabrics soften the strong curves of a modernist canopy bed. All have down comforters and private balconies, and many rooms also come with a fireplace and whirlpool tub. Suites with a wet bar are also available.

It is such a pleasure to stay at a luxurious, but cozy hotel, right in downtown Palo Alto. The rooms are very well appointed, with all the right touches (again, luxury is really the right word). Best to get a room that overlooks the inner courtyard rather than out over the street or parking lot. The noise from the Il Fornaio restaurant can be a little unpleasant on an early weekend morning when you'd rather be sleeping in or enjoying a quiet moment on your balcony. Overall, the common areas of the hotel are feeling a little tired and in need of freshening. The hotel is about to be under new ownership; perhaps these issues will be addressed. The location is fabulous!

Heavy doors, beautifully appointed room, antique bathroom fixtures add a unique touch, so quiet I slept until 10 a.m.! Coffee service in the hallway was very classy and the coffee was very good. Il Fornaio makes the whole place smell great. I listened to smooth jazz on the Bose stereo in my room -- absolutely perfect.
