Students and alumni refer to the campus affectionately as "the Farm" because it was built on 8,880 acres of what was formerly a farm where Leland Stanford raised champion racehorses. The campus spreads from the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains to the edge of Palo Alto, in the heart of Silicon Valley, which houses California's huge computer industry. Stanford has been called "the first great American University."

historical setting. A gorgeous campus,which you can walk through,stop by the athletic store,go for a starbuck's coffee nearby,on a sunny day,you cant beat stanford
