Chair MassageMassage therapy produces relaxing and beneficial results by manipulating the body's soft tissues. Chair massage focuses on the head, neck, back and shoulders, resulting in a nurturing experience for the body, mind and spirit.
Muscle TargetingChair sessions specifically target the upper body, where many people experience the most stress. The neck, shoulders, back and head are frequently the sites of tension, and the therapist has easy access to these areas when the client is sitting in a chair. The result is a more targeted approach to massage that pinpoints exactly where the most stress lies.
Muscle RelaxationEach day, the muscles of your neck, shoulders and back are subjected to stress. Eventually, this stress can cause your body tissues to become sore and stiff. A therapist uses his or her elbows, hands to place pressure on and stretch the affected muscles during chair massages. The result of this gentle manipulation of tissue is ultimate muscle relaxation, less tension and less stress.
Pain ReliefMassage therapy can be a vital component of pain management and relief. Adhesions, also known as muscle knots, are a frequent cause of aches and pains, especially in the neck. The neck's scalene muscle group is notoriously cantankerous and often the origin of pain that spreads throughout the shoulders, upper back and chest, hands, arms and even the side of the head. Therapists can easily target these muscles when the guest is in the chair and release these trigger points for pain relief.
Improved CirculationWhen muscles relax, it is easier for blood to reach the body's tissues, leading to better circulation. Therapists also use specific techniques to manipulate the muscles and help guide blood through the tissues. The improved circulation that results from massage allows oxygen and nutrients to flow more freely and easily into the muscles and encourages waste products to move from the muscles into the bloodstream, where they are expelled from the body.
Positive TouchIn addition to these physical benefits, massages also provide psychological benefits. While sitting in the chair, clients often become more mentally relaxed, experience lower levels of anxiety and improved awareness and thinking. As a result, many clients report improvements in sleep and lower levels of stress following their chair sessions.
Added ConvenienceChair massages are more accessible than full-body massages that take place on a table. Some clients, like the elderly or those with physical mobility limitations, may have trouble mounting a massage table. Chairs make it easier for everyone to enjoy the benefits of massage.
Fully Clothed ComfortFull-body table massages require that the client undress according to their level of comfort; either to their undergarments or nude. Some guests feel self-conscious about their bodies or are simply uncomfortable being exposed near another person. When a massage is performed in a chair, the client can remain fully clothed and comfortable while still reaping all the advantages of the treatment.
Session LengthAll session times include 5 minutes for initial consultation and undressing and conclude with 5 minutes for redressing and recommendations. For example, 60 minute custom massage session consist of 5 minutes for initial consultation and undressing, 50 minutes custom massage and 5 minutes for redressing and recommendations.
Couples MassageA couples massage is a wonderfully relaxing, personal experience. During the session, two people receive massages at the same time and in the same room from two different therapists. The therapy provides many of the same benefits as other types of massage but with some added bonuses.
Bonding OpportunitiesCouples massage is a special, shared experience that encourages two people to bond closer together. Clients may use the session to catch up, communicate and chat, or they may simply relax and enjoy their shared experience in comfortable silence. Even when words are not spoken, the experience brings couples closer together.
Increased ComfortUnlike traditional massages that are done solo, couples treatments allow clients to experience massage with someone they know. This familiarity provides comfort to first-timers who may initially be uncomfortable or nervous about the process. Having a partner in the room makes the session less intimidating and allows the clients to relax more fully. Many clients are also squeamish about undressing but are more comfortable in the presence of a friend or other partner.
Perfect for All Kinds of CouplesAlthough couples massage can certainly be romantic, sessions are also the ideal time to bond and relax with a dear friend or family member. Mothers and daughters can become closer and best friends can visit while letting stress slip away over the table.
Convenient CoordinationFinding time for each other, let alone massages, can be difficult for couples with busy schedules. By pairing massage sessions with quality bonding time, couples can accomplish two goals at once and emerge relaxed, refreshed and reconnected. The convenience of couples treatments is also ideal when planning a special event, like a wedding or other celebration. Entire bridal parties, for example, can get ready for the big day all at one time, reducing rushing and stress.
Personalized Therapy TogetherEvery individual has personal needs and goals for massage. During a couples session, both clients can receive unique treatments that address their specific needs. While one partner may experience pain radiating from the neck or shoulders, the other may experience tightness in the feet or legs. Couples sessions allow both of these issues to be addressed at one time, resulting in complete and comprehensive treatment for both clients.
A Healing, Healthy ExperienceMassage can reduce stress and muscle tension, improve circulation, eliminate stiffness and soreness, boost the immune system, reduce pain and even help control one's blood pressure. Couples who strive to practice a healthy lifestyle can enjoy these benefits and more together.
Corporate, on Site MassageNo matter what your employees' duties are, the office can often be a source of stress. Presentations, deadlines, meetings and big projects can all cause the neck, back and shoulders to ache and stiffen. Corporate massage addresses this issue by making relaxation and rejuvenation part of the work day, leading to many benefits for both employees and the company as a whole.
Boosting ProductivityEven a brief massage can seriously boost productivity and problem solving abilities. According to the journal american psychologist, employees who receive a 15-minute massage emerge from the chair better able to take on complicated tasks. Massage also relieves fatigue and stimulates creative thinking, creating a more energetic and innovative team. Absenteeism is a significant threat to overall productivity. Employees who work in stressful environments may need to take a day just to relax and clear their minds. Corporate massage accomplishes that right in the office so employees are less likely to take time off. Less stress also means happier employees and better performance.
Improving HealthMassage has been shown to relieve arthritis, boost the immune system, improve muscle and joint functioning and reduce blood pressure. These benefits make your employees feel better, allowing them to work more efficiently and miss less days of work.
Improving Overall Well BeingWaning morale can have a major effect on a business's bottom line. Work-related problems like stress cost companies billions of dollars a year, but massage can boost morale and make employees look forward to coming into work each day. Relaxed employees are also less likely to feel anxious or hostile at work, which leads to a more positive and productive work environment.
Enhanced RetentionEmployees are far more likely to stay with a company they love. By limiting stress at work, massage contributes to higher retention rates. Companies who make massage a regular part of their business invest in both the well-being of their employees and their business.
Perfect for Crunch TimeMassages are a great way to get your team through challenges. Many clients use massage to reduce the stress associated with demanding times, like tax time, the busy holiday season, moving, restructuring or working with a new client. Being relaxed and refreshed can help make these times and transitions go more smoothly.
Show Employee AppreciationCompanies who offer massage show they appreciate their employees. When your team knows they are valued, they are more likely to remain loyal to your company and produce the best work. Scheduling massage time lets your employees know you care about their physical and mental well-being and is a great way to say "thank you" for all the hard work.
Convenient MassageCorporate sessions take place in a chair instead of on a table. Therapists are able to target the most common sites of stress, like the neck, back and shoulders, while your employees remain in the office. The sessions can be completed in just a few minutes, so your team can quickly get back to work feeling refreshed and renewed.
Deep Tissue MassageDeep tissue massage targets deep layers of connective tissue and muscle. Using slow strokes to apply pressure, the massage focuses on areas of pain and tension. Injuries or chronic muscle tension can cause adhesions, more commonly referred to as knots, to form in the tendons, ligaments and muscles. These adhesions are rigid and painful and can block circulation, impede movement and cause inflammation. Deep tissue massage breaks down the adhesions to restore natural movement and reduce pain.
OverviewThe pain that stems from these conditions is most often the result of inflammation. When the muscles are massaged, blood flow throughout the body is increased. The better blood flow reduces inflammation and therefore relieves pain.
Tension and Stress ReductionDeep tissue massages can also reduce tension and stress, leading to lower blood pressure. According to a study conducted by the university of maryland medical center, guests may experience a drop in blood pressure of up to 5.3 mm hg following a deep massage session. Repeated massage sessions can even break up and eliminate scar tissue. The pressure associated with deep massage improves lymphatic circulation and encourages drainage, which leads to an improved range of motion and more flexibility. Due to these benefits, this type of massage is often recommended for people who have recently undergone surgery. Consult your doctor before receiving massage therapy; there may be a period of healing necessary before receiving a massage is safe or appropriate.
Muscle InjuriesInjured muscles can also benefit from deep tissue massages. During the session, the muscles are manipulated and relaxed, causing the release of toxins and the stretching of twisted or tight muscle mass. For this reason, deep massages are especially beneficial for athletes who suffer from various sports-related injuries.
RelaxationAlthough deep tissue massages are not specifically designed to promote relaxation, many guests report feeling happier and rejuvenated following a session. This is because the therapy promotes the production of serotonin, a hormone that is responsible for good feelings.
Deep Tissue TechniqueDuring the massage, the therapist uses his or her hands, elbows, fingertips, knuckles or forearms to stimulate the muscles and reduce adhesions. The slower pace of this type of massage means that every muscle receives the optimal level of care. Guests may be asked to breathe deeply throughout the session, especially when tense areas are being targeted. Deep breathing supplies the muscles with plenty of oxygen and can ease discomfort. A professional massage therapist can create a comprehensive and unique therapy plan based on your individual needs. No two sessions are alike because they are customized to address the specific problems of each guest. The therapist can target certain muscle groups to ensure that you emerge from the table feeling refreshed and free of pain, whether you are suffering from a chronic condition, stress or a sports injury.
Relaxation Massage, Swedish MassageOver time, the body builds up unhealthy amounts of stress hormones in response to work deadlines, traffic jams, relationship problems and more. These hormones can cause physical problems, like digestive issues, headaches and sleeplessness. Relaxation massage decreases the amount of stress hormones in the body, leaving clients feeling completely relaxed and rested, even after the session is over. The techniques used during the massage trigger changes in the brain's chemistry, resulting in reduced stress and an improved mood.
Relaxation ProcessDuring the session, the guest lays on a massage table in a quiet, comforting environment. Dim lighting and soft music contribute to the peaceful atmosphere, creating the perfect setting for worries and stress to melt away. Using his or her hands, the therapist applies gentle pressure to the body, smoothly manipulating the muscle tissue. The careful rubbing and kneading of the body's outer tissue layers promotes complete relaxation of both the mind and body.
Stress ReliefStress relief is one of the most significant benefits of relaxation massage and is an important component of a healthier lifestyle. A one-hour massage session can reduce stress by lowering the heart rate and reducing levels of insulin and cortisol. Massage also improves blood circulation, leading to lower blood pressure and improved body functions. The techniques used during the session facilitate blood flow through congested areas, releasing pressure and allowing new blood to flow through targeted areas. When the muscles are gently pulled and squeezed, lactic acid is flushed from the muscles, which contributes to the improved functioning of the lymphatic system. This system rids the body's internal organs and muscles of metabolic waste, leading to better functioning and lower blood pressure. The lowered blood pressure caused by massages can reduce one's risk for developing anxiety, depression and hostile feelings, control stress hormone levels and lower the risk of having a stroke, heart attack or kidney failure. Stress can cause muscle soreness, but massage relaxes the muscles and reduces pain. By using special techniques, the therapist can remove tension from the muscles and increase flexibility. The blood flow facilitated by massage also delivers oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, leading to a reduction in pain, inflammation and stiffness.
RejuvenationFollowing a massage session, most guests report feeling not just relaxed, but completely rejuvenated. This feeling is attributed to the release of dopamine and serotonin during massage. These hormones are responsible for happiness and feelings of overall well-being. Studies show that during massage, activity in the right lobe of the brain, which is more active when people are depressed, is decreased, and activity in the left lobe is increased. The left lobe is most active when people are happy, and massage kicks that area of the brain into high gear.
Boosting the Immune SystemFinally, massage can boost the immune system by reducing the amount of cortisol; also known as the stress hormone, released in the body. Elevated levels of cortisol are a culprit of weight gain. The hormone attacks the body's defensive cells that kill off bacteria and viruses, but massage decreases cortisol and therefore improves the functioning of the immune system.
Sports MassageRoman physician, surgeon, and philosopher galen developed a massage regiment in the second century that today would be compared to and considered the common sports massage. Sports massage is important for every level of athlete from cross-country runners to power lifters to football players. Before an event, sports massage allows for the player to loosen their muscles and after an event it allows the player to relax the muscles to decrease the chance of sports related stress injuries. Sports massage is also a key element in preventing injuries and also helping athletes recover more quickly from injuries. Using sports massage properly will help athletes maintain and even improve upon their conditioning. Three main types of massage are utilized in sports massage to seek out such benefits.
EffleurageEffleurage is a swedish technique which directly translates to "touch lightly. " Unlike many other massage techniques, effleurage can be modified to work over large or small parts of the body. During the beginning and end of sports massage, superficial effleurage is used in order to soothe the body. After the beginning superficial effleurage, deep effleurage is used to apply more pressure to stretch and warm up the muscle tissue in order to prepare it for deeper massage.
PetrissagePetrissage is the next step in proper sports massage. Petrissage goes deeper in order to stimulate the underlying tissue where massage is applied while also increasing the amount of blood supplied to the area. Petrissage uses a kneading technique that concentrates on only one muscle or small group of muscles at a time. Other common applications of petrissage include skin rolling and picking up and squeezing the skin. Using these methods of petrissage allows the therapist to work on individual muscles the client is having trouble with.
FrictionsFrictions are often performed for players who are injured or are about to undergo incredibly strenuous activities where injury is likely. By influencing cell behavior in soft cell tissues, friction massage helps to relieve pain from affected muscles by deeply penetrating them with several different fingertip movements. In more serious sports injuries, the frictions portion of sports massage is applied in order to help reduce scar tissue in parts of the body where build up is likely to occur. Because this type of sports massage is mostly used for those who are injured, it is important to keep in mind that this may be painful at first, but will serve to be beneficial in the long run.
Physical TherapyMassage is historically one of the oldest forms of physical therapy. In a world so full of changing medical practices and beliefs, the basic art of massage has remained mostly unchanged. Sports massage is incredibly important for athletes in order to maintain their prime performance condition. Like with any other treatment or physical therapy, one must make sure they seek out a professional massage therapist in order to be certain they are receiving the best and proper care. Not using a professional risks injury or further injury and puts ones athletic career or participation in jeopardy.
Thai MassageThai massage is a very unique form of massage that combines traditional aspects of massage therapy with more yoga like techniques, allowing both the stretching and relaxation of the body. While thai massage remains one of the most basic branches of thai traditional medicine, or ttm, it has seen a large uprising in europe and north america since the 1990s.
MethodAccording to the thai massage school, a typical thai massage will, "[apply] pressure along the sen sip or energy lines of the body, [use] gentle soothing movement, yogic stretching, rhythmic rocking, [use a] range of motion work, [and] joint compression and decompression. " Many people have said that a thai massage session is like going to a yoga workout without having to do any of the work. Therapists are taught to form a strong bond between the client and themselves in order to form a fluid like transition during the entire process. Because of their extensive training of the transition running from positions and state of mind, the therapist is certain to support the client both mentally and physically throughout the process.
Set UpUnlike typical table massage, thai massage is usually conducted on a padded floor mat so that the therapist can work with the client's body without the possibility of falling. Fluid-like movements are very important during the session, so clients wear yoga attire or loose clothing instead of being draped in a sheet during the massage. Again, because of the movement and clothing, it also means that unlike many other forms of traditional massage, no oil is applied to the body.
Energizing the BodyThai massage is a form of massage meant not only to relax but also to energize the mind, body, and spirit. The therapist uses their hands, knees, legs, and feet in order to stretch the body in several different age-old techniques. Because of this, it is often considered more intimate than other traditional forms of massage. Due to this, thai massage is not recommended for first time spa goers. Thai massage is also not recommended for those who have skin conditions, recently undergone surgery or other serious medical procedures, or are pregnant.
History and BenefitsIn thailand, it is called "nuat boran," which translates to "ancient pressure. " Thai massage is a technique so important to the thai culture that it is recognized and regulated by the thai government used to treat many different ailments. Aside from "lazy yoga," thai massage is also often called "compassion in action" because of the interconnectedness of the client and patient. Like more traditional forms of massage, thai massage helps to relieve stress and pain, release toxins, and improve motion while increasing resistance to injury. Pain and suffering are often caused by tension — both in the mind and body. Thai massage and its compassionate touch is here to help transform these into health and relaxation.
Hot Stone MassageTypically, when someone is not familiar with traditional and common massage techniques, they picture hot stone massages to be filled with agonizing pain endured only by the brave. Such beliefs are only superstitions. Hot stone massage comes from an age old tradition of native americans who would use special stones heated by water in order to soothe typical aches and pains in muscles. The temperature of the stones usually remains between 122-127 degrees fahrenheit, which allows the stones to relax the entire body while also warming up tight muscles in order for them to be easily worked with by the therapist. This is not to say that anyone can or should perform a hot stone massage. At lavida massage, our trained and licensed professionals will make sure our guests receive proper care.
MethodHot stone massages consist of the therapist placing several hot stones along the spine and back or holding the stones in their hands in order to manipulate problematic areas of the back. A combination of placing the stones and manual manipulation of the stones is also quite common.
Benefits and HydrationBecause of the relaxing and balancing nature of the hot stone massage, it is believed to help with common aches and pains, poor circulation, arthritis pain, stress, anxiety, tension, depression, and even insomnia. One of the main precautions to take before a hot stone massage session is to make sure the body is properly hydrated. If the body is dehydrated during this massage, burns can be a severe repercussion. To prevent burns, be sure to drink plenty of water before, during, and after the hot stone massage treatment. It is also a good idea to apply a skin moisturizer twice a day for the week leading up to the massage to make sure the skin is not dry, as dry skin is more likely to be burned by the hot stones.
Tension and Trigger PointsOne of the main benefits of a hot stone massage is its ability to release the tension of tight trigger points. Tight trigger points, especially in the back, is the cause for many common problems including general soreness of the back along with tightness and the feeling the back needs to crack without the ability to do so. During a hot stone massage session, a hot stone will be place directly on one or many of these trigger points in order to relax and release these feelings. It also allows the muscles to loosen in case the therapist needs to work more deeply on the area.
Natural EnergyWell trained therapists will have the knowledge and ability to also use the hot stones in a way that allows for the natural flows of energy to be discovered and utilized. Application of hot stones to these areas not only harnesses this natural energy but also helps to restore the natural balance of the being. To further help access these benefits, additional stones may be placed in the palms of the hands, on the stomach, and/or between the toes to better connect these energy pathways.
Prenatal MassagePregnancy is a time of beauty and growth, but it is also a time when the body undergoes many painful and stressful changes. One of the best ways to relieve stress and ease pain is through prenatal massage. Massage has been used for thousands of years to relieve stress, relax the muscles, and improve health and it remains true even during pregnancy. Although the benefits of traditional massage therapy remain the same, prenatal massage techniques differ. Prenatal massage requires special precautions in order to prevent injury to the client and child. Because of this, it is incredibly important for the prospective client to ask the massage therapist if they have specific training in prenatal massage.
BenefitsA recent study conducted by the university of miami school of medicine has listed benefits of massage therapy during pregnancy which include, "lowered anxiety, decreased back and leg pain, improved sleep, decreased levels of the stress hormone norepinephrine, increased levels of serotonin and dopamine, decreased levels of cortisol (a stress indicator common in depressed pregnant patients), and an overall improvement in mood. "
Getting ComfortableDuring a prenatal massage, instead of lying on the stomach, like during many traditional forms of massage, the patient will lie on their side. Many centers have specially made pillows which allow the client to rest comfortably during the process. If such a pillow is not available, the patient should ask for extra pillows or sheets in order to make themselves comfortable. One cannot receive the benefits of massage if they do not start out comfortable.
Duration of PregnancyThe type of massage the expecting mother receives depends on where they are in their pregnancy. Generally, the further the patient is along, the less rigorous and deep the massage becomes. Most techniques utilize and concentrate on efflueurage the most. Efflueurage is a swedish massage technique which directly translates to "touch lightly. " This technique allows the therapist to use gliding strokes to gently soothe large areas of the body or specific problem areas without using much pressure. For areas such as the shoulders and legs, it is likely the therapist will use the deep efflueurage method, which uses slightly more pressure, in order to stretch and broaden the muscle tissue. This is both incredibly soothing to the body and also allows the therapist to warm and ready the muscles if deeper massage techniques are required.
Ask Your Massage Therapist About TechniquesThough it is best to seek specialized and professional massage therapists for prenatal massage, there are certain techniques which are easily learned and performed which can be done by the partner or others that do attain some of the benefits. Simple shoulder massages performed at home can relieve some of the tension and stress caused by pregnancy. Light massaging of problematic areas of the back and legs are also fine, as long as too much pressure is not applied. Of course, every pregnancy is different and a doctor should be consulted before scheduling a prenatal massage.
Additional Modalities
AromatherapyAromatherapy is one of the easiest, most accessible, and beneficial forms of holistic healing. While there are several different methods of applying aroma therapy, it is definitely something everyone should try. The easiest way to explain the practice of aromatherapy is the art of accessing different essential oils in order to alter the mind, body, spirit, or health. There is nothing artificial about aromatherapy, everything used comes from nature.
Learning the MethodsOne of the most common and effective applications is the direct inhalation method. What makes this application so beneficial is that the client does not have to worry about an inadequate amount of essential oils being released by aerial diffusion — or environmental fragrance. During the direct inhalation method, the therapist will place the perfect amount of essential oil on a cotton ball or tissue which is then placed under the face cradle. This is especially popular for essential oils meant to help with respiratory or sinus ailments, along with psychological practices, as well. It is important to be very careful while practicing this application if you have a history of nasal problems or allergies. Another common practice is to mix the oil into massage lotion and apply this mixture topically. Because some oils are powerful enough to burn the skin, this sort of topical application is not available for all essential oils.
BenefitsSome of the benefits of aromatherapy include: regulation of hormones, relief of menstrual cramps, stimulation of the immune system, a decrease in congestion, relief of tension headaches, improved energy, relaxation of muscles, reduction of inflammation, improved sleep, aiding digestion, and improving blood circulation. Of course, the recipe and mode of application will differ to achieve different benefits.
Essential OilsEssential oils serve many problem areas at once. Below is a list of scents and their benefits:Options:
Rosemary (antiseptic, stimulant, antispasmodic (suppresses muscle spasms), diuretic, tonic, uplifting of the spirit, warming)
, Sweet orange (colds, constipation, dull skin, flatulence, flu, pain in gums and/or mouth, slow digestion, stress)
, Peppermint (asthma, colic, exhaustion, fever, flatulence, headache, nausea, scabies, sinusitis, vertigo)
, Lavender (stress, anxiety, sadness, agitation, allergies, asthma, chicken pox, colic, depression, ear ache, insect bites, migraine)
, Eucalyptus (arthritis, bronchitis, cold sores, colds, coughing, fever, flu, poor circulation, sinusitis)
, Grapefruit (cellulitis, dull skin, toxin build up, water retention, fatigue, stress)
Mixing Oils to Find the Right BlendObviously many oils cross paths in their healing effects this allows for them to be mixed in order to amplify the benefits. Your therapist will be skilled in knowing which recipes will cover your needs and which will work for you. Aromatherapy is an art which can put an entire crowd in a better mood or help a single person sleep better — the possibilities really are endless.
ReflexologyThe body is an amazing thing in the ways that it works together or separately to perform tasks. One of the most amazing things about the body is how the human reflexes in the hands and feet can provide effects in other parts of the body. This idea of reflexology states that pressing or massaging different longitudinal zones (there are five on each side of the body) can stimulate the flow of energy, blood, and nutrients to other areas which are affected by the region which is being worked on.
BenefitsWorking these spots allow the body to relax and for stress to melt away. Because it is said that 75% of ailments, injuries, aches, and pains are present due to stress, reflexology allows for an overall increase in the health of the body. Reflexology is so effective because the feet and hands are incredibly thin and therefore, a person has more access to the immense amount of nerves located within them. These nerves act as a sort of mirror to other parts of the body, each pairing up with a different part. The therapist is highly trained in the art of reflexology and upon the initial consultation with the guest, they will ask where the patient is having problems and then tie those problems to one or more of the ten energy zones located within the body. Often times, the therapist will come across other areas of the body which are pained and are able to treat those, as well. By knowing exactly where the pain is in the body, the therapist is able to directly correlate that area to where it would be located on the hands or feet and perfectly target the reflex points. It is widely accepted in the world of reflexology that this practice is so effective because the pressure applied to the nerve sends a signal to the brain, which in turn, sends the message of relaxation and decrease of pain to the matching body part. It is also widely accepted that these ten zones work together to provide natural energy throughout the body. By manipulating this energy, the therapist is not only able to relax the guest but also help aid in conditions such as anxiety, asthma, cardiovascular issues, headaches, and sinusitis. The pressure which is placed on the areas of the hands and feet allow for blockages causing these problems to be broken down and for the patient to feel relief.
Guests Best Suited for ReflexologyReflexology is often recommended to patients who are quite shy about massage and other therapy because there is no need to remove clothing aside from shoes and socks. It is also most beneficial for those who are stressed or work long hours because it allows for them to sit back and relax while the stress and pains are kneaded away from their hands and feet.
Cranial Sacral MassageCranial sacral therapy is a simple procedure involving light, therapeutic touches administered to the head, neck, and other troublesome areas which prevents the problematic exchange of cerebrospinal fluid throughout the body.
What to ExpectDepending on the area or areas receiving treatment, sessions can last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. Craniosacral therapy not only helps with a large number of problems which complicate many lives every day, but it is an easy step in keeping the body and mind beautiful. The session begins with the guest lying on their back with the licensed therapist gently examining the head and neck areas. If problems are occurring in other areas which can be treated with craniosacral therapy, these areas will be examined at this time in order to determine the best way to solve the ailment through therapy. Most of the time, the therapist will begin at the cranial base, located at the back of the skull. Many times stress and other blockages here are the cause for migraines and lesser headaches. By working this area, the therapist will be able to open up the tissue and allow it to breathe more freely, which will often alleviate pain caused in this area. Craniosacral therapy applied to this area also allows for any unwanted blockage preventing cerebrospinal fluid from flowing freely from the head and neck to the thoracic inlet to dissolve. One area which often receives special attention during a craniosacral therapy session is the jaw. If not enough fluid reaches the jaw, it is more likely for temporomandibular joint disorders, commonly referred to as tmj, to occur. When the therapist performs craniosacral therapy on this area, it loosens the joints and allows fluid to enter it, which in turn, removes the tension away from the jaw. Another area which benefits from craniosacral therapy is the sacrum. For the body to perform at its best, cerebrospinal fluid must flow freely from the head and neck all the way down the entire spine. By working the sacrum, it helps aid in the flow of this fluid in order to solve a number of ailments including general back pain caused from stress, chronic fatigue, and balance — among many other problems stemming from the hips. In addition to relieving pain caused from stress, fatigue, balance and headaches, there are a plethora of ailments and conditions which craniosacral therapy can help or even cure. Because of the relaxing nature of the procedure, it can be very beneficial for those suffering from a number of nervous conditions. This is due to the fact that often times in patients with such problems, there is very little cerebrospinal fluid reaching the brain. This also benefits those suffering from menopause, digestive problems, eye stress and pain, hyperactivity, and also helps to strengthen the overall performance of the immune system.
Trigger Point Massage TherapyTrigger point pain is one of the most common ailments which affect the muscles. However, it is also one of the most painful considering the pain does not occur in just one area, but can cause tingling, numbness, and other discomforts in areas distant from the trigger point. To know if trigger point therapy is needed, one must know what a trigger point is. A trigger point, also commonly referred to as trigger sites or muscles knots, is an incredibly tender spot in the body, and more commonly within the muscle or muscles, which will cause shooting pain in other areas of the body when stimulated. Trigger points make themselves apparent in viewable knots in tight bands of muscle fibers. Because of how incredibly tender these sites are, many people feel that the long lasting benefits of trigger point therapy are not worth the temporary pain which occurs during treatment. This is hardly the case, though, considering an untreated trigger point is likely to cause spreading pain and future problems with balance and correct posture.
BenefitsOne of the main advantages of trigger point therapy (when compared to various other forms of massage therapy used to treat pain by working all areas of the body), is that it works very specific points of the body where the pain is occurring in order to provide the best and closest treatment for the pain.
MethodDepending on where the pain is, and it usually occurs in the shoulders, back, or hips; the therapist will have the guest lie down in a way which is both comfortable for the guest, in the sense that other trigger points are not aggravated, and easy for the therapist to work the area. The therapist will then canvass the body in order to locate the exact area of where the trigger point is located. Location of the trigger point can be uncomfortable for many, especially if they have more than one. After locating the trigger point or points, the therapist will use several different finger techniques of varying pressure on and around the points in order to break down the build-up of the knot. Because of the direct pressure applied to the area which is affecting the guest the most, this can be uncomfortable. Depending on the size of the trigger point, it may take several visits to the therapist in order to be assured that the entire trigger point has been deactivated.
Post Trigger Point TreatmentOnce the trigger point has been removed, no matter how many visits it has taken, it is incredibly important for the guest to remain hydrated. The breaking down of the trigger point takes all of the toxins which have built up in these areas and releases them into the blood stream. Without proper hydration, it is likely that the toxins will make the guest sick. Drinking plenty of water and other healthy beverages allows for the toxins to wash out of the blood stream in a short period of time, allowing the guest to continue their lives both toxin and trigger point free.
Skin Care
Designer PeelThousands of skin products are available at beauty and department stores, however they come nowhere close to the effectiveness of a designer facial peel. At home facial peels can be used for maintenance between professional facials, but they are no substitute for the immense care an esthetician provides. There is no comparison for reducing the appearance of blemishes, age spots, scars, and even freckles. This is because drugstore facials only work on a limited area of the skin, hardly ever going past the first few surface layers while a designer peel facial performed by a professional uses more abrasive formulas in order to reach deeper layers of the skin and remove darker or deeper problem areas. Estheticians are incredibly dedicated to their craft and pride themselves on providing the very best service to their patients. When a guest comes in for a designer peel facial, they can be assured that they will be pampered and cared for throughout the entire process. Also, because treatment and success rates often depend on skin tone, guests can be assured that the esthetician will formulate a designer peel facial customized to suit the individual's needs. The procedure is incredibly easy and comforting and usually lasts about an hour.
ProcedureCareful preparation goes into priming the face before the designer peel facial actually begins, so that customers receive exactly what they desire out of their treatment. After the pretreatment solution has dried, the esthetician will then decide with the guest which sort of treatment is best for their skin, while considering tenderness, tone, and prominence of facial ailments such as blemishes or dark spots. After the proper exfoliator has been placed on the skin, depending on the amount of time it needs to set, the esthetician will ask several times if the guest feels any sort of tingling or burning in order to make their visit most comfortable. Once the exfoliator has been removed, the face is then cooled down and relaxed again with a recovery mist. Afterwards, a series of clarifying masks will be placed onto the skin in order to bring out the natural beauty of the skin tone and also to remove any sort of blemish or dark spot which was not reached during the exfoliation. Finally, the face will be massaged with hydration and protection serums and creams in order to seal the designer peel facial.
Jetpeel FacialJet peel treatment is a soothing alternative to microdermabrasion. This supersonic infusion-style technology exfoliates and stimulates the skin to promote new cell and collagen growth. Common areas of treatment are the face, neck and décolleté. 100% oxygen and saline solution are combined and used like a "mini pressure wash" for the face. While this may sound harsh, it is actually a very gentle cleansing that reaches the dermis layer to unclog pores, remove dirt and makeup buildup. After a highly effective jet peel treatment, your skin's texture and appearance will be rejuvenated, toned and fine lines will be diminished. This treatment is also effective in treating blackheads and acne.
Lavida Signature FacialThe lavida signature facial is more than a relaxing, deeply penetrating cleanse to take years off the face; it is an experience that cannot be matched by any competitors. For an hour, the guest's face will be pampered, cleaned, massaged, and made more beautiful.
ProcedureFirst, the esthetician will consult with the guest and evaluate their skin to determine how the signature facial can be customized to best suit the guest's needs. In the beginning, the esthetician will give a quick run-down on what the lavida signature facial experience consists of. During this time of consultation, guests can make special requests and/or ask questions so that the esthetician can clarify any inquiries and accommodate the guest's needs. This is the beginning step to ensure the procedure goes smoothly so that the guest gets the most from their facial. During the session, the peaceful environment is enhanced with dim lighting and relaxing music. The first step of the actual lavida signature facial is to cleanse the face in order to remove the daily toxins and oils the guest comes into contact with. After this, the guest has the opportunity to partake in the designer peel. If the guest does not wish to participate in this procedure, an exfoliating mask is placed onto the face and allowed to sit in order to reach several layers of skin and leaving the guest with a fresh face. Once the mask is removed, a recovery mist is sprayed onto the face in order to provide immediate nutrients to the new skin while also refreshing and cooling the face. Since the face has already been treated lavishly, relaxing massage lotion will be placed on the neck and upper chest and massaged in for ten minutes while the body steams. Not only is this incredibly relaxing, but the steam allows for further toxins to escape the body. After the massage, the esthetician may ask if the guest wants to have any waxing done. Because the body is relaxed, waxing provides the least amount of discomfort at this time. The face is further hydrated with lotions and serums. The lavida signature facial allows for separate serums which concentrate on specific areas of the body — such as eyes or chin — to be utilized. This will complete the lavida signature facial.
Ultrasonic FacialResearch has proven that ultrasonic facials work on a deeper level compared to many other traditional facials. The benefit is an increase in circulation with the added bonus of feeling refreshed and beautiful.
What Is an "Ultrasonic Machine"?The ultrasonic facial machine is a machine with a paddle attached on the end of it which uses low frequency ultrasound causing vibration at a high rate in order to deeply penetrate dirt and grime on the face. Because it uses ultrasound instead of masks or other serums, it is very popular with those who wish for a more natural facial experience. This reason also allows the esthetician to customize the ultrasonic facial experience for the guest to better maximize the results based on their individual skin tone and composition.
ProcedureThe guest lies down as if they would for any other procedure and the esthetician will take time to explain exactly what to expect during the ultrasonic facial and also ask if there are any special treatments such as acne or anti-aging which the guest may want to concentrate on. The esthetician will gently cleanse and massage the skin in order for it to be more relaxed during the next steps. During the first step of the ultrasonic facial, the machine is used to loosen up dead skin cells. This is beneficial because most often these dead skin cells tend to dry out the skin and cause it to become dull. The next step is the peeling process. Here, the machine pulses water into the skin very quickly in order to flush out all of the dirt. If it is okay with the guest, steam can also be utilized in order to reach even deeper. The third step can be very customized as the esthetician applies a vitamin rich serum to the face and then uses the ultrasonic facial machine to penetrate the serum deeply into the face, allowing it to reach places normal beauty serums and creams do not. The last step is much like the first step, but it also allows the esthetician to tone and lift the face. This increase of collagen production helps to rejuvenate the muscles of the face. Finally, a finishing mask and toner are applied in order to lock in all of the beauty.
BenefitsThe ultrasonic facial treatment is recommended for those with acne because the machine works deeply into the skin, allowing deeper cleaning. It is also recommended for those seeking out anti-aging because of the fantastic lifting properties it offers.
Session LengthAll session times include 5 minutes for initial consultation and undressing and conclude with 5 minutes for redressing and recommendations. Body Waxing, Hair RemovalProfessional waxing by a trained esthetician cannot be compared to at-home hair removal alternatives. Attempting to remove hair at home puts the consumer at risk of misusing the product, or even injuring themselves. Professional waxing offers treatments and procedures not available at home, and can easily access areas that are hard to reach (arms, back, stomach, bikini area). When one receives a professional wax, they must take into account that their esthetician has gone through extensive training in order to provide them with the absolute best care. One thing that scares many away from professional waxing is the amount of intimacy shared with a stranger. This fear should be abandoned considering that the relationship between esthetician and guest is not only completely confidential, but also completely professional. While cost is something many take into consideration when deciding to go with at-home alternatives rather than professional, they should also consider that the at-home products do not use as powerful of products which are offered professionally and may result in the individual having to repeat the waxing process more often. Professional waxing lasts much longer and there is a large decrease in having any sort of complications. Most of the time, those who wax at home do not take these things into consideration.
What to ExpectTo begin, the esthetician will consult with the guest discussing which areas are to be waxed and addressing any concerns or questions. Next, the esthetician will exit the room allowing the guest to change into a towel or gown. Once the esthetician returns to the room, she will begin to apply a thin layer of a specially formulated wax to the area which is to receive the waxing and a thin, paper-like cloth is placed on the area. After the esthetician is certain that the wax has attached to the hair, the cloth is quickly removed in the same direction as the hair grows. This simple process is repeated until all of the hair in the area receiving treatment is removed. After the procedure is finished, the esthetician will apply a comfort cream in order to prevent any irritation which may occur from the waxing process.
Additional Services
Body Treatments and WrapsToday there are a number of ways available to detoxify the body consisting of everything from three-day diet cleanses to special facial masks but nothing will ever be more effective than a body wrap. Most body wraps are mixtures consisting of clay, essential oils, and various herbs. The herbs and essential oils help to provide holistic healing and relaxation. The mixture is then combined with water in order to form a thin, but workable paste which will cling to the wraps and better penetrate into the skin.
ProcedureThe session begins by consulting with a therapist in order to discuss exactly what results the guest wants from the body wrap procedure or if there are certain areas they wish to focus on. The guest then undresses while the therapist prepares the body wrap mixture. When the mixture has been prepared, the guest will stand as the therapist submerges the elastic bands into the solution and then wraps them around the entire body starting at the ankles and ending at the neck. While they are wrapped quite snugly, the therapist knows exactly how tight to wrap in order to increase circulation rather than jeopardize it. After all of the wraps have been applied and secured, the therapist will then wrap the guest with plastic wrap in order to seal in all of the solution. For the next half hour or so, the guest will relax and allow their body to reap the benefits of their body wrap. With the wraps and the warm room, the body increases sweat production which in turn, allows the solution in which the wraps were soaked in to penetrate deeply into the skin — allowing the healing process to begin. Also during this time, many unwanted and harmful toxins will begin to release themselves out of the body. When the time has come to an end, the therapist will return in order to remove the plastic and elastic wraps from the body and the guest bathes in order to remove excess solution left on the body.
BenefitsSome results are immediate such as a noticeable decrease in size, an overall more relaxed disposition, softer skin, and less noticeable lines. Others will begin to appear over the next few days as the toxins continue to release themselves. Other benefits will include increased circulation, less stress, fewer aches and pains, lower blood pressure, and toned skin. Body wraps are incredibly beneficial to the overall improved quality of life.
Colonic HydrotherapyWhile there are many different ways to cleanse the body of bowel related ailments, there is only one which will reach much deeper than over the counter enemas — that is colonic hydrotherapy. Our therapist is trained in creating an experience that is relaxing while professionally performing the colonic hydrotherapy procedure. This discrete process is very beneficial in removing waste material and bacteria that the body is unable to naturally remove.
ProcedureFirst the patient will meet with the therapist in order to determine if colonic hydrotherapy is a procedure which is right for them. Our therapist will conduct a consultation to discuss the benefits of colon hydrotherapy, as well as determine if the patient has any health issues that would rule out colonic hydrotherapy as an option for them. When the process begins, the patient will change into a gown then lie down on their back with their feet flat on the table (which raises the knees). The therapist inserts a small speculum a short distance into the rectum. The therapist then turns on a special machine which will repeatedly flush purified water in and out of the bowels in order to reach deeply into the bowels. The therapist will often massage the patient's stomach during the process in order to loosen up toxins and blockages which the water may not be able to fully reach. Sometimes herbs or natural evasives are added into the water if there is an exceptionally bad blockage or a certain ailment. Water is being flushed into the bowels, and is also being carried out by discrete tubing. Every effort is made to ensure a relaxed environment through respectful privacy. Usually a single treatment will last between 35 and 45 minutes. The therapist will often change the pressure and/or temperature of the water. These changes, which the therapist knows exactly when to do, help to stimulate the colon in order for it to contract involuntarily and increase the release of waste. Often times in the case of serious buildup, the therapist will recommend multiple colonic hydrotherapy sessions. Once a person becomes used to the natural process of colonic hydrotherapy, much tension can be removed and the session will become much more productive. If this is the case, the therapist will often consult the patient on foods to avoid and ones to eat more of in order to further aid in the cleansing process.
Infrared Body WrapWhile there are many spa treatments which provide more than one benefit, none come close to the amount of benefits infrared body wraps produces. Not only is the number of benefits high, but infrared body wraps can be used as a form of treatment for just about everyone from those suffering from incredible deep tissue sports injuries to those who just want to drop a few pounds quickly.
ProcedureBefore the procedure begins, the guest will have a consultation with the therapist to relay their purpose for seeking treatment and have their questions answered. Then the guest changes into loose, workout type clothing in order to be as comfortable as possible during the process. Next, the therapist will wrap wide bands which are connected to the infrared machine around the most important areas of the body including the chest, torso, upper legs, and upper arms. This decrease in circulation allows for the infrared light to further penetrate the skin and work on a deeper level. The machine is turned on and the heat helps to increase the amount of circulation, but because of the restriction, it causes the body to produce more sweat than normal. This means that an incredible amount of calories are being burned while the guest just relaxes and lies on their back. As the infrared body wrap goes deeper into the skin, it also removes excess water and body fat — allowing for a slimmer appearance. Sessions usually last for about 45 minutes and the amount of benefits seem to be endless. The guest immediately begins to feel a reduction of overall stress due to the warmth and relaxing nature of the experience. The large influx of natural circulation will help general aches and pains slip away. Even areas that have suffered from damage for a long time will begin to feel revitalized as the body naturally begins to repair itself. The guest should drink lots of water to flush the large amount of released toxins from the body.
BenefitsWhat people are most amazed by with the infrared body wrap is the immediate loss of inches on the body. The infrared works hard to tighten the skin, which of course means less cellulite. Other benefits include less acne and the loosening of toxins. Normal diet and exercise should be maintained after the infrared body wrap procedure in order to keep the circulation at its best and to also keep those inches away.
