Great Place for Hair Makeover!

First impressions say a lot. I called this salon and the gal who answered the phone was the owner of the salon and she was very friendly, down to earth, encouraging and honest. She answered all my questions about what to expect if I went there. She explained to me the difference between her salon compared to the rest of them, and that is what encouraged me to use their services. Excellent first impression.

Upon arrival, I walked in and was greeted immediatly and knew right away that I was in a stress free environment. It was nice and comfortable. They offered me a seat and a small menu of beverages to choose from. The owner had me fill out a customer card and then explained to me what would be happening next and told me who would be servicing me today. Excellent communication.

The senior stylist was courteous and attentive to my wants and desires and tried to provide that for me with great effort and expertise.

I got my hair done, it looks good and and feels great. I had some modest highlights put in and had a shorter texturized cut with long layers.

My only dissapointments were the fact that I paid for a style, yet my hair wasn't curled. I like to get my hair curled with a curling iron before I leave, it lets me feel complete and reassures me I will like the style. . I told the stylist that, so she tried curling my hair with a flat iron, which kind of defeated the purpose, but the effort was there to please me. Which I appreciated. The other dissapointment was the price. Even though I expected the price would be high, I was disappointed that I didn't get my hair curled in the 3 hours I spent in the chair for the money I paid..

However, I highly recommend this place because of the environment, courteousy, professionalism, expertise plus it's ran very well by a great owner and staff . Stands out above the rest..

I got home, curled my hair and I like the style very much. I will go back and encourage you to also.

Really bad experience

I'm sorry to write this as I agree with other reviewers that the stylists are really nice and the atmosphere is pleasant. I got my hair cut a few times and it was fine and then I got a color and it was literally a disaster. I asked for brown/deep mahogany (my hair is brown I just wanted to freshen it up) and specified that I did not want it red at all. My hair was literally purple. Everyone I saw immediately commented. The sylist knew it was bad and gave me a discount - I still paid $200 - and promised to call me in a few days. She said if it didn't fade she would fix it. I never heard from her again and have been using color stripping shampoo (for swimmers) for 2 months now. LIke I said, people are nice and I feel bad writing this, but I went to this salon based on all the 5 star reviews i saw here and think it's only far that I tell people about my experience.

I look great!

Wow! I look great!!! I had an appointment this morning at Andrew James Salon to have a change and I couldn?t be more pleased. I have long straight hair (forever) and finally decided to join my chic pals and add some flair. I chose the salon because a friend recommended it and for that tip I love her even more. Even though I had been told differently, when I nervously got to the salon, I still expected the usual loud music, trendy decor and pouty hair fashionistas. No way. It felt like I walked into somebody?s home. I was welcomed immediately by the front desk person who physically stepped out from behind the desk (a very nice, hospitable gesture I thought), and was offered my choice of beverage. (Now I like coffee so I jumped at it to calm my quaking nerves.) Then rather than sitting down and waiting, I was introduced to several of the ladies working at the salon and warmly led by Megan to her station. She never rushed me but let me nervously ramble about my long hair, about how worried I was to cut it after so many years, how I wanted a change, that I am a professional so I can?t be too edgy, my absolute freakout about highlighting it (we did and I love it), etc. Then we agreed on the new cut, the shade, how to replicate the style, and away we went. I walked out of that salon feeling absolutely, massively edgy yet professional (sort of Chic but not Over-the-Top) and I have not stopped smiling since. I recommend this salon ? and Megan ? so wholeheartedly! Go there! It?s a great place for atmosphere, hospitality, style and comfort.

I found Andrew James salon on CitySearch and decided to try it out based on the great reviews. I've been going there for almost two years now, and I love it. Everyone who works there is so nice and welcoming - not pretentious at all. When you walk in, they'll offer you a drink (they have a menu of drinks, including coffee, tea, wine, etc. and it's all free). When I walked in last time with that completely stressed, post-workday dazed look in my eyes, the first thing Heather said was, "You look stressed. Do you need a glass of wine?" It could not have been a more perfect greeting. After half a glass of red wine and some munchies, I was a new person.

I have had my hair cut by three different people there. Normally, that would scare me - I tend to stick to what and who I know. But I have loved it every time, so I have gotten far more comfortable with having my hair cut by whoever is available. They will give you a list of recommended Eufora products when you are finished with your cut... some people don't like that, but they aren't pushy about it and most of the time I don't buy anything.

Basically, I love this place. They do a great job with my "mind-of-its-own" curly hair, and despite the fact that I get a basic cut with no color and I rarely buy products, they make me feel like I'm their most important client.

I never knew what a million bucks felt like until I walked out of this salon with a new color and new bangs! With all seriousness... Great friendly service and a very talented staff. I was more than impressed with the hospitality I recieved from Heather the owner and my now favorite stylist Marie

Friendly atmosphere, professional attitude, happy customers!

After going to the same stylist for 12 years, in Sacramento, I decided it was time to switch to someone where I live. THAT WAS VERY SCARY! I have always had a very edgy, short style that required a precision cut. I asked a woman at work who she went to and she recommended Andrew James salon - Kaleen cut her hair recently. I called on a Monday and they got me in with Kaleen on Wednesday!!! The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The customers they were serving were all happy with their service - I thought that was a good omen for my impending experience. The owner offered to serve me a beverage of my liking when I got there - then they recorded it for my future visits so they would be ready. I had a diet soda but they also have tea, coffee, water, wine, etc. The shampoo was so relaxing I nearly dozed off.... and the jitters went away. Before and after pictures were taken and the actual experience of the cut and style was enjoyable. Kaleen helped me relax and conversed pleasantly the entire time. The overall experience was what I would expect from a high-end salon.... and not as stressful as I had expected. Kaleen calmed my fears and guided me to make the best decision about my new hair-cut. At the end of the appointment, they go over all the products used but made it VERY clear it was not a sales pitch. I felt no pressure when I didn't buy anything. The price was in the ball-park with other high-end salons. I have had more expensive cuts that were not as satisfying! I highly recommend this shop to anyone. I have another appt. in 6 weeks.... and I am looking forward to it.

Great skills for haircut.

I wanted to change my hairstyle that I had for 10 years, the classic straight long hair. I wanted something fresh and I would not regret the next day. So, I searched the net to find a place that suit my needs. AJ salon caught my attention because the good reviews here. I called, Lynette ( the sweetest voice ever ) answered my phone. When I told her that I have thin and very straight hair, she gave me Kaleen. Very good match ! Kaleen listened to me attentively then suggested a style that she thought would look good on me. Indeed. I was happy back then, January 2008, when I got my haircut. I am still very happy now. All I can say, it takes skills to make my hair look good. Kaleen got skills and good artistic judgement. :-)

I went back the following week to get my hair partially highlighted. In my humble opinion, it's too pricey for a partial highlight and so-so result. However, I am indifferent about it. I also bought shampoo and conditioner for sensitive scalp, and loving it.

WOW!! WOW!!! WOW!!!

All I can say is WOW!!! What a great Salon!!! The staff was so friendly, especially the cute red head who greeted me. I loved sitting with a cup of Latte and reading a trash magizine while being pampered. Great hair cut - great experience. I love the products I purchased and recommend everyone buy them. They are worth it. They help keep the cut and color looking great. You wont find a better hair style or latte in California.

The best salon experience!

From the moment you walk in the door, you will be thrilled with all aspects of this salon. The customer service is fantastic. Everyone who works there is so friendly and courteous. The stylists are incredibly knowledgeable, offering valuable suggestions about cut and color. They really care about what the customer wants. They will tell you about the products they're using on your hair, but are not pushy in any way. The products, made by Eufora, are great, smell wonderful, and really last a long time, so they're economical as well. I highly recommend Andrew James Salon!
