Best fast food in town
by melodieusc
I'm not sure why some people rate the Falafel drive in low. I think people have misconseptions of what you might get. If your looking for easy parking... not the place, looking for 5 star waiter customer service... not the place.... it you are looking for comfortable seating in air conditioning... not the place. But those reasons are not why you should be going to Falafel Drive In. If you want a GREAT tasting, well priced and fast lunch.... its the place! I work in the area and there is always a long line but no biggie, they will have your order out to you in minutes. The people that come for lunch are interesting as well. You get everything from suits to shorts! Great place for lunch.
- Pros: YUMMY food, fast service
- Cons: parking
Didn't live up to the hype
by ddankert
After hearing great things about the legendary Falafel Drive-In, I was excited to finally try it and see for myself what all the fuss was about. I was a little worried about parking, but on a Sunday night, I found no problem finding a space on the side. However, what I failed to account for was that I needed cash - thank goodness for the ATM. Having cleared that hurdle, I perused the menu board (which could have used a few more details) and decided on the falafel sandwich and a side of hummus. As I stood waiting for my order, I watched the employee throw together my sandwich without wearing any gloves - something that I don't really consider all that appetizing. I tried to put this out of my head as I watched other patrons eagerly order their falafels and onion rings. Finally I sat down to my sandwich. It had a good amount of falafel and the sauce was tasty, but I couldn't quite get past the fact that the fried chickpeas distinctly tasted of onion rings. The pita itself was ok - it was cold and came straight out of a bag, but that's to be expected. I was most disappointed by the hummus though. It was so wrought with tahini that its was almost difficult to eat. Now, hummus is one of my favorite foods, so I may be a bit picky, but I didn't feel like it complemented the falafel at all. All in all, I was rather let down by my experience at the Drive-In. It was quick and fairly inexpensive, but it didn't leave me with a satisfied feeling. Perhaps I needed that banana shake - if only I liked banana!
- Pros: Quick, cheap
- Cons: Falafel tasted of onion rings!
Good falafels but no parking and rude customer service
by wordforyou
Yes, yes, I know, they have good falafels and even a tasty banana shake. However, they lack any kind of customer service known to mankind. They are stingy with the sauce(s) and almost always act like they could care less if you were there or not. And don't get me started on how incredibly impolite they are on the phone. And they don't have the best hours either.
- Pros: Good falafels and shakes
- Cons: No parking, poor service, dirty tables
Heaven in a pita
by timanderin05
After watching The Food Network, we drove up and found heaven in a pita. Great food, great banana shake ... very quick service, easy to find ... though there is not a lot of parking. Definitely worth the wait.
- Pros: Wonderful food
- Cons: Not in San Diego
Great if your drunk, mediocre at best if you're not!

For under 4 bucks I bought what everyone there was having, the SUPER BURRITO, it's about 3lbs, HUGE! If you have a hole in your stomach and you like Taco Bell and Weinschnizzel (which is right next door), this is the place for you; however, with all the tasty burritos around town, don't go out of your way to get one unless someone else drives you there, because your wasted and can't see straight. This place is far from authentic; your only choice of meat is ground beef, and then refried beans and tons of cheddar go on everything. Why anyone makes this a destination is beyond me.
- Pros: big portions, quick and friendly service
- Cons: ingredients, overall taste, smelly bum
RUN TO YASOO'S ON BASCOM
by iamhungryfor
Yasoo's food is fresher and cheaper. The gyros are overstuffed with all things good. More parking, indoor and outdoor eating. Much larger selection of foods.
- Pros: I'm thinking, I'm thinking...
- Cons: price, parking, seating, proximity and volume of traffic, portions
The absolute BEST falafel I have ever had!
by randallsclark
I see a lot of people eating burgers at this place but I think they're nuts b/c the falafel is the best I've ever had! I've also had the Gyro and it is respectable but I wouldn't make the trip w/o getting the falafel or maybe two.
- Pros: Quick, easy, great location!
- Cons: Crowded around lunchtime, especially on sunny days
Very Best Falafels!
by smidgit
Not only are the people wonderful and kind, but the food is excellent! I've never had such a great Falafel. Even my Portuguese grandmother loved them! Would recommend for anyone to try.
- Pros: Food, Service
- Cons: Seating
Still great after all this time!
by swtpea77
I've been going here, consistently, for over 30 yrs....the prices have gone up a few times of course but then again, so has gasoline, right!? Always great, the best is the large falafel & banana shake combo. Its always busy which indicates good business, good food, same family and a lot of consistency. 4 family generations of mine now enjoy this place!
- Pros: Falafel, shakes, pita chips, fast service
- Cons: parking is scarce during lunch time
You Crave It! Esp. the Pita Chips... Mmm
by sangita24
My husband's family has been going to this place for years and now we take every chance to make a trip - it's just that good. Like going to Philly for Gino's cheesesteaks, you've gotta do it!
- Pros: Yummy and Fast
