The Scene
The museum's architecture was inspired by the Temple of Amon at Karnak. The adjacent garden includes a wide variety of plants and statuary. It's free and open to non-members daily until 9pm. Past events for museum members and the public have included a Halloween tour of a cemetery featuring Egyptian tombstones, an Egyptian dog show, an Egyptian cat show, hieroglyphics workshops and a papyrus-making workshop.
The Collection
The museum houses the largest collection of Egyptian, Babylonian and Assyrian artifacts on the West Coast, including objects from pre-dynastic times through Egypt's early Christian era. The collection includes human and animal mummies, pottery, sculpture, scarabs, utensils, jewelry, textiles and a full-scale replica of a tomb. Seals and tablets from Sumeria, Assyria and Babylonia are examples of the earliest-known writing.
