California roll is not sushi, this place rocks
by asnbkr
To the previous reviewer....you ordered "california roll"...that's not even real sushi. This place is the best in the south bay, and I've tried a ton of places. The himachi, salmon, and albacore are amazing, as is the red dragon roll.
- Pros: High quality sushi
- Cons: tough to get a table sometimes
Best Sushi in Los Gatos
by faridoon243
Yokohama is by far the best sushi joint in Los Gatos. The seafood is almost always fresh, and the chefs are always open to you asking "what's fresh today" and they'll make a great recommendation. I recommend the spicy tuna rolls, the spider rolls, and the sashimi. I've had the chicken teriakyi before it's average, nothing too spectacular there. The service is great, friendly warm staff. The interior isn't spacious, if you're going in with a group make sure to call-in in advance otherwise groups of 5+ will have a hard time getting seated promptly and comfortably. If you're into sake bombing, the chefs are sometimes into taking a few bombs with the guests at the sushi bar.
Side note: Yokohama for some reason always seems to be playing 90's teen pop like Nsync and some other weird 90's VH1 music
- Pros: Fresh Seafood, Friendly Staff
- Cons: Tight space, a little pricey
cute quaint place to have sushi

This is a cute little place in Los Gatos. It's a little dining room, but it is very warm and inviting. The spicy tuna rolls were wonderful! And the miso soup and edamame were great too. I went later in the evening so we were seated quickly. I can see it becoming pretty busy during the dinner hour.
- Pros: quick service
- Cons: limited parking
Very good to excellent sushi in a cool, lively atmosphere

First off, I have to say the red neon everywhere added a unique touch to this cute little place on Santa Cruz Blvd. We drove past Yokohama last night on our way to Double-D's for a birthday party, and it caught my eye immediately. So, tonight we decided to check it out. We weren't dissapointed at all! The fish was fresh, the staff attentive, and the experience lovely. We arrived a little after 7:30p and were seated and served immediately--the food came out very fast and was terrific! I have to specifically point out the Bonito nigiri as it was prepared in almost the same way at Echigo in Santa Monica (for those of you ever in the LA area, it's a must-see) and was wonderful. Will definitely go back!!
- Pros: easy street parking, FAST service
- Cons: limited seating and menu selection
Best Sushi Around
by ducratic
Having travelled extensively, I have to rate this as my favorite sushi spot. If you haven't tried salmon sashimi from Yokohama, you haven't lived! They actually marinate their salmon for two days in their secret sauce. It's out of this world.
I whole heartedly disagree with the previous review. This is a favorite spot among locals in Los Gatos and surrounding areas. Service is great and it does have a unique atmosphere that's kind of peaceful and cool. They'll play whatever music is requested. I've spent many nights there for late dinner where the whole restaurant was toasting drinks together. Sushi chefs are great and yes, patrons do buy them beer. It's tradition and custom at most sushi bars.
- Pros: Sashimi, Los Gatos Roll, Tofu Salad
- Cons: small venue, one bathroom
yokohama = bad tourist suhsi

this was a very disappointing experience. my first clue was the tacky disco-ish music and the sushi chefs drinking beer with one of the patrons.
i ordered a california roll with real crab, nigiri tamago (egg) and nigiri shrimp.
the california roll had the cheapest canned crab;the sandy, grainy bits that form the dregs of the bottom of the can. not fresh. it tasted powdery and dry.
the tamago came to my table still frozen; i had to wait until it thawed. the ginger had an unfresh flavor. the only thing good about the meal was the green tea.
service was really bad. i had to call out to a waitress across the room to finally fill my water glass. with other sushi restaurants close by, i really don't understand why this one is still drawing customers. i felt cheated.
- Pros: green tea
- Cons: food, service
Where to get a raw deal and like it.

The Food
Downtown Los Gatos has needed another sushi place for years. And this cute restaurant housed in the former Hug-A-Berry yogurt shop is a welcome addition to the dining scene. Fresh is the catch here. Owner Young Kim spends his mornings racing all around the Bay Area looking for the best that local fisherman have to offer. Take the hamachi, maguro and unagi raw and you won't be disappointed. Yokohama also serves some very interesting rolls such as the Philadelphia, with cream cheese and salmon, and the Spider, made from soft-shell crab. The California rolls are only mediocre. No tempura.
The Scene
As one would expect, this is a very hip place with cool jazz playing and a minimum of the tacky Japanese knickknacks to clutter the place. A really good place for an important first date.
