It is very hard to find a nice, classy, not so expensive day spa around the san jose/santa clara area. So finding Sage Day Spa was a miracle! This spa is one of the best. I got a facial with a lady named Lana. My company had just finished our end of the year reports and I was in need of a facial. I was breaking out, and was worried about my skin. When i came in for my appointment, the receptionist was really friendly. She asked if i wanted any water or tea. When Lana came in, she first asked if i had any questions about my skin and consulted me on what i should do to keep my skin healty and acne free. You could tell she was very expeirienced. She was very gentle and careful with my sensitive skin; an esthetician like that is very hard to find. She also used products like Yonka and Dr. Jeff. I was curious and went home to research them, and found out that they are top of the line products from Europe. My face definitely felt cleaner and lighter. And about a few days later, my face was back to normal. My experience with Lana and the spa was definitely a very good one. The staff was professional, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the decor was nice-very earthy!

Pros: Skill, Atmosphere, Friendliness

I get pedicures 1-2 times per month. I called them to reassure myself they were sanitary which they claimed to be. The place looks nice, but they lie. The pedicure lasted 30 minutes, and the massage was 5 minutes. They don't have an area for drying your nails. They painted my nails so messy that I had to go home and take it off to repaint them. They kept pressuring me to upgrade my pedicure to a 15 min for $15 massage (in which other places usually massage for 15min w/out the extra charge). She also cut my big toe nail so funky at a 30 degree angle on both sides, as I asked for square shaped nails, she said she couldn't because of ,my nail shape which I always get square nails (it's because of how she cut them. I was pretty upset when I left. I could of did them myself for what she did. On top of using a used pumice to smooth my heels she barely did so, that my heels were in the same condition as I walked in. To top it all off, she was talking the whole time to the other manicurist who didn't have a client at the time.

Pros: Nice floors

Cons: The staff including the self absorbed receptionist, the service, sanitation

I went to Sage for my first Brazilian because it is located near me and I didn't want to deal with Santana Row on the weekend. I was assigned to Lana and was pleasantly surprised. She did a great job, and talked to me the whole time to calm my nerves. She was very comforting and the whole process was relatively painless. I doubt I will search for another place just because she did such a great job. I can't really rate the other services since I only got the Brazilian, but I would definitely give the other services a try.

Pros: Great service and friendly staff

Cons: Expensive for the location

What has been obviously overlooked is "Valerie", Sage's lone and phenominal hair stylist, I can not recommend her enough. Hands down, the best haircut/style I have ever had!!!

Pros: I only see Val

Cons: None I am aware of?

I scheduled a massage and a facial for my birthday. My appointment was at 10 a.m. the door was locked until 10:10 a.m. when the receptionist arrived to let me and the massage therapist in. The massage was pretty good. The therapist initiated conversation with small talk. We wound up talking most of the time which was ok but did not aid in the relaxation process. So on to my facial. The technician there told me to continue to relax as positioned me on the table. She then proceeded to tell me about how her husband left her 2 1/2 years ago and how hurt she was. She asked me question bringing up my own divorce and there was no relaxation involved.. She performed painful manual extractions on my face. At one time I had to stop her because she was applying so much pressure to my eye socket while using it for leverage that I thought my eye would pop out. She then told me that she was behind due to the late arrival of the receptionist and ended my 70 minute facial early. To wrap it up I will not be scheduling my next facial or massage at Sage.

I started having facials at Sage Beauty Spa and each time my face fills great and and more vibrant. Cathy is the esthetician who has been giving me my facials. She is very polite and makes me fill relaxed each time when having my facials. Cathy's hands are like a surgeon and very soft on my face. She explains each step in the facial process and she shows a lot of care for her clients. She does such a great job is one of the reason I like facials. The Spa is well maintained and clean and has a warm feeling. I highly recommend Sage.

Pros: Parking, service, friendly, clean, price

Cons: maybe open up earlier on Saturday and Sunday

I had a deep tissue massage, my first at this location but I'm quite experienced with massages. The technique was interesting, involving an extensive scalp massage, lots of long stroke motion on my back, and some wonderful techniques on my hips and legs (where I'm carrying a lot of tension right now). The table was comfortable, and had a warming pad on it so that it was quite cozy and lovely. So why is the overall rating below average? The room was cold, and when I requested that it be warmer, I was told that the heater was already set to high. I could hear quite a lot of traffic outside the room, especially footsteps on the tile flooring. The massage finished up with a vigorous rub down with a steamy towel, which had the effect of waking me up in an abrupt fashion. Had I had a body scrub or an invigorating service, I think that I would have liked the towel rub; after the massage, not so much. The water evaporating off my skin made me feel even colder in the room, and I was left, chilled and sitting upright, when the masseuse left the room. As I was dressing, the masseuse began banging on the door, and I had to jump to keep her from opening it before I was fully clothed. The rub-down took most of the oil/lotion off my skin and left it feeling dry. Normally, the massage oil on my skin (which is otherwise incredibly dry) is one of the perks of having gotten a massage. Another perk is the feeling of well-being and relaxation that a good massage invokes. This time I felt like the rush and discomfort of real life was brought into the massage room, and I did not get the escape or lasting feeling of relaxation that I was looking for. My neck muscles had even tightened up from the cold room. A day later, I'm already planning when I can go somewhere else and get a satisfying massage.

Pros: Very clean facilities, toasty warm massage table

Cons: Freezing cold room, below average deep-tissue massage

I have never done a review here, but I felt so strongly about this spa that I decided to create an account at CitySearch. This was the worst massage I have ever had. The therapist was Tiffany. First, she could not speak a word of English, so she had a hard time understanding my needs. Second, she had LONG nails. It hurt whenever she touched me. Third, her hands reaked of cigarette smell! The place has no place to take shower afterwards - especially with the cigarette smell all over my body. Furthermore, they do not was their robes or slippers, so I had to wear an already-worn robe and slippers. Absolutely disgusting. This is the WORT spa I have ever been to, and I am shocked at anyone who recommends its massage treatments.

Pros: None

Cons: Unprofessional therapist

I have been getting facials done for the past five years. I tried a a high-end salon in San Francisco, tried going to my mom's friend, but the outbreaks and irritation continued, and sometimes would even get worse after the facials. So I decided to give it a last try, and a few months ago I went to the salon to get a facial from somebody my friend recommended. Her name was Inna; she was very sweet and gentle. She gave me a special acne treating facial. Within three days the redness disappeared and the acne was almost gone. Inna had some kind of a magic touch that I have never experienced; my face felt and looked better than it has in years. I recommended her to my friends who asked me what I had done to treat my face. Later, I even went back to her for waxing. She did it quickly and painlessly without any irritation that usually appears later.

I decided to treat myself to a nice facial and some relaxation. I tried Sage because the prices seemed decent, and they had a 10% coupon on their website, which by the way has expired 6 months ago. I called to make an appointment and asked if I could use their online coupon, and the lady said, "No problem, I'll take care of you!" Wow, I thought this place had great customer service, and the lady (Lana) who talked to me over the phone was also going to be doing my treatment. I got there for my 1 o'clock appointment, and Lana was running half an hour late. She told me that she was sorry and again, "I'll take good care of you!" The treatment started out okay. Lana asked me what I did for a living. I told her, and then for the next hour, while I wanted some peace and quiet, she bragged about her three children to me, how they were ASB presidents, where they went to college, and basically went through all their trials and tribulations. I got no peace and quiet AT ALL. When I thought I was about to get to relax, she started to mention everyone in her family that was a doctor or dentist. It's great to brag and all, but I really didn't care about any of this stuff. FINALLY, after she applied a facial mask, she told me she would leave the room for 15 minutes. I thought finally, some relaxation time. She placed her timer right next to my ear and for the entire 15 minutes, all I could hear was the ticking of the clock. TICK TICK TICK! After the treatment, I thought well, at least I got a facial and at the very at least, it was still value because there was a 10% coupon. I pulled out the coupon I had printed off their website and then she started to yell at me telling me the coupon had expired. She made a HUGE fuss over the coupon and told me that she had really tried hard to do a good job. At the very end of my treatment, all I had was a huge headache. It was a horrible experience and I would not go back there again.

Pros: Decor was nice

Cons: The service & the experience!
