Both my ten year old and five year old daughters and I enjoyed this movie. This is a nicely produced film with a good message. The story is set during the Depression, and the characters face financial hardships like many today. Kit's father loses his job as does many others in their small community. Homes in her neighborhood go into foreclosure and several of her friends are forced to move away. Kit and her friends who once lived idyllic childhoods are thrust into the real world of economic uncertainty, and they all must make sacrifices and learn to live a less comfortable lifestyle. The story is centered around a spree of thefts in the township. To many the suspects seem obvious, but Kit is able to look beyond what seems clear to everyone else and is able to solve the case and identifies the true criminals. While the lesson of not judging a book by its cover has been played out countless times, it is worthy of being taught once again in this story with a happy ending. This is a nice family film that is rarely seen, the broadest appeal will be to yound girls (10-12 years). Excellent Mother-Daughter date movie.

This movie was very entertaining and can bring out that little Kit in you. This movie is truly based on an American Girl Novel because Kit was always nice, sweet, generous, and playful. I would recomend this to grandmothers, mothers, and/or children, and/or anyone that may have the heart for it
