Good food, nice ambience. We just went to this restaurant today and it was very nice. The food is good and the restaurant looks great. The waiter that served us seemed like he was in a hurry all the time but wasn't rude. You should definitely check this restaurant - the Italian food here is quite different than in other Italian restaurants, it's cooked much better and has a nice twist to it (even though the ideas for dishes are similar as in other restaurants). In other places you get same dishes with same taste, nothing much interesting unlike this restaurant. The food isn't very cheap but you're getting your money's worth! TRY IT!

Decent Italian food in Mtn View. Food was good, ambiance was nice, but though it wasn't all that crowded, the server seemed to rush us into making our orders quickly. On the up side of service was that our water glasses were always promptly filled. The food delivery time was nice and fast; tiramisu for dessert was good. The single malt selection was average (I think about 10), but the prices were very competitive.

A Consistently Best Bet. Don Giovanni is a family favorite. Great for going in groups, as it can get quite noisy, it serves large portions of high-quality fare. Dishes aren't too adventuresome, but they are well done. Especially recommend the calamari and minestrone (both EXCELLENT) as starters. All in all, don't be afraid of going classic, Ristorante Don Giovanni is sure to elegantly please. Plus, gotta love Castro Street in Mountain View.

Perhaps the most urbane and sophisticated restaurant on Castro Street.. The Scene
One of the only Italian joints on Castro Street, its high ceilings, sleek mahogany bar, and crisp white linens make it a natural for a romantic assignation.

The Food

The antipasto misto is a nice shared appetizer, requiring the use of fingers to pop in an olive or a hunk of velvety fresh mozzarella. It's hard to circumnavigate the pastas in order to try one of the entrees like veal saltimbocca or pollo al pomodoro picante (chicken breast in a spicy fresh tomato sauce)--really huge appetites will be able to plow right through the pastas (maybe gnocchi in suave tomato sage sauce? linguine with pesto?) and keep up the pace through an entree, too. Whatever your strategy, be sure to leave sufficient room for a slice of amaretto cheesecake.

Best Gnocchi in the south bay. I usually judge an Italian restaurant by a) if it serves gnocchi and b) how good the gnocchi is. This place wins hands down. Not to mention its a great place to bring out-of-town guests or large groups.

Yummy Cheesecake!. I recently went to Don Giovanni for the second time and it was as good as the first. Service was fine, but the food was great. I had the special, crabcake on pasta. The real reason I went back, though, was dessert. My boyfriend and I couldn't even reconcile to share a slice, we both had to get our own Amaretto Cheescake. It was as fantastic as the first time.
