Where food, travel and technology meet.

by Contributor

Where food, travel and technology meet.

The Food
Western dishes such as herb-roasted Cornish game hens or potato-leek soup have equal footing with Eastern concoctions like fried poori bread and curried chickpeas or crab springrolls. Chef Dan Valdez hasn't fallen prey to fusion cuisine, with a mishmash of ethnicities rammed onto a single plate, but instead has orchestrated a kind of world travelogue or gastronomic U.N.

The Scene
The decor pays homage to several parts of the world, with a gold brocade sit-on-pillows-on-the-floor Middle Eastern section and a trompe l'oeil European village section. The technology part comes in with an internet computer corner. The beer list is equally global in scope, and the owners' gorgeous framed travel photos make a trip to the bathroom feel exotic.

Below expectations

by ginahan

Liked the concept, but the food was mediocre. The seared ahi tuna was overcooked and dry. The sea bass was also overcooked and overwhelmed by a soupy sauce. It seemed like there were too many flavors competing against each other so that none stood out.

An International Food Experience

by cjglynn

Born from the proprietors culinary encounters as they traveled the world after leaving high-tech careers in The Valley, Global Village Cafe is truly an international food experience in downtown Mountain View. The menu, a pleasing melange of cuisines from different cultures, features selections including Carrot Coconut Ginger Soup, Moroccan Lamb Spring Rolls, Thai Chicken Wrap, and Herb Crusted Sea Bass. Presented with an artistic flair, the well conceived and well executed dishes provide diners with an explosion of flavor, while melding taste sensations from around the world into an eclectic, but harmonious dining experience. The service is both polite and attentive, and with a new, full bar, GVC now features cocktails as well as wines from diverse regions from California and Chile to Australia, France, and Italy. In short, GVC is an international taste sensation tucked away in the heart of The Valley.

  • Pros: Parking, Presentation, International
  • Cons: A bit noisy
